IN WISCONSIN
Resolution 91 —a
WHEREAS mace is a tear gas weapon used for defensive purposes by the general
public and by many citizens of Saint Croix County while working in the Twin
Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS many citizens of Saint Croix County have been trained in the use of
mace by their Minnesota employers as a result of several parking garage
assaults during the past several years; and
WHEREAS mace is an effective defensive weapon which may be legally sold,
possessed, used or transported for defensive purposes in the neighboring state
of Minnesota and in almost all other states; and
WHEREAS the sale, possession, use or transport of mace for defensive purposes
is prohibited by Wisconsin Statute Section 941.26; and
WHEREAS the sale, possession, use or transport of mace for defensive purposes
is punishable as a Class E felony (maximum penalty of two years imprisonment
and a $10,000 fine); then
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Saint Croix County Board of Supervisors by
this resolution memorialize the Wisconsin Legislature to enact legislation
which allows the sale, possession, use or transport of mace in Wisconsin for
defensive purposes.
