HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 1991 (48) RESOLUTION SUPPORTING PASSAGE OF ASSEMBLY BILL 160 - AFDC FRAUD PENALTIES Resolution No. 41 (q/ St. Croix County, Wisconsin WHEREAS, Wisconsin law does not comply with federal regulations requiring loss of eligibility for Aid to Families of Dependent Children (AFDC) benefits to a person found to have committed fraud regarding the AFDC program; and WHEREAS, the State of Wisconsin could lose millions of dollars of federal aid for welfare fraud investigation because of its noncompliance, which would then be lost State aid to counties and their welfare fraud investigation efforts; and WHEREAS, pending legislation (Assembly Bill 160 in May, 1991) provides for penalties to a person found to have committed fraud regarding the AFDC program in the following manner: For the 1st offense, suspension of benefits for 6 months. For the 2nd offense, suspension of benefits for 1 year. For the 3rd offense, permanent suspension of benefits; and WHEREAS, the County Public Protection Committee recommends support of the pending legislation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors that it supports legislation providing penalties to persons found to have committed fraud in regard to the AFDC program and urges its passage.
