HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 1986 (04) I RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING PASSAGE OF ASSEMBLY BILL 835 BY OCTOBER 1, 1986. Resolution # 4&6) WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 835 was introduced on February 11, 1986 proposing to raise the legal drinking age from 19 to 21 years of age on October 1, 1986; WHEREAS, under current Federal law, the Secretary of the United States Department of Transportation is required to withhold 5% of the surface transportation assistance act funds apportioned to any state which does not prohibit purchase or possession of alcohol beverages by persons under 21 years of age commencing on October 1, 1986; WHEREAS, the State of Wisconsin would lose approximately $21 million per year in surface transportation assistance act funds if the legal drinking age remained 19 years of age; WHEREAS, St. Croix County would undoubtedly lose thousands of dollars annually in surface transportation assistance act funds unless AB 835 becomes law by October 1, 1986. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors, meeting in regular session, that the Board strongly recommends to its legislators that Assembly Bill 835 be passed and become law no later than October 1, 1986; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be immediately forwarded by the County Clerk to all legislators serving St. Croix County, Governor Earl, the ty Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and to the Wisconsin County Boards Association.
