WHEREAS, under Section 814.69 of the Wisconsin Statutes,
revised, the County is responsible for the payment to court
reporters for any criminal, juvenile and indigent transcripts as
are prepared; and
WHEREAS, the County provides payment for the State's Public
Defender copy of the same as may be requested and that this is in
addition to the transcript copy for the prosecution and for the
original court; and
WHEREAS, the Finance, Budget, Building and Bond Committee
for St. Croix County is of the opinion that if the State's Public
Defender requires transcripts, then the State should bear the
responsibility for paying for those requests, thereby relieving
the County and the county property taxpayers bearing the cost of
the same,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the St. Croix County
Board of Supervisors, meeting in regular session, hereby declares
its support for changing various statutes such that the State's
Public Defender be required to pay for those transcripts as they
may request or require.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk for St. Croix
County is,directed to forward copies of this Resolution to State
Legislators representing St. Croix County.
