Whereas, by Ordinance #82 (83). St. Croix County
imposed a penalty of 6% on any delinquent general
property taxes, special assessments, special charges
and special taxes included in the tax roll, and
Whereas, this ordinance was passed at a time when
interest earnings were at an all time high and the
penalty would discourage people from not paying
their tax obligation, and
Whereas, interest earnings are now at an all time
low and the recession is claiming property holders
lands because of the added cost of penalty and
interest that can be more than the actual tax.
Now therefore be it resolved by the St. Croix County
Board of Supervisors that the 6% penalty on
delinquent taxes be rescinded.
