't'here are two existing bedrooms on the main floor, basement is finished with no bedrooms. The current homeowner plans to guild an addition to increase the size of one bedroom and add an additional bedroom bringing; the home to a total of three bedrooms. Problem: The original septic permit & perk test is not on file at St Croix County, either one was never issued or the issued permit was misfiled. Due to the home's location on a busy county highway it seems unlikely the system was installed` "in the dead of night " with no permits. Existing Conditions: System: Septic System consists of one 1000gal septic tank, it has 24" manhole risers that is indicative of a Midwest Precast or Wieser Concrete construction. The drain field consists of two 1300g, drywell tanks, depth & diameter matches drawings of what Wieser was building in this time period, do not have any information on Midwest precast drywells. Drywells are backf lled with 1 'f2" rives rock, Soil Evaluation: On 9/10/13 a pit was dull; between the two drywells for a Soil Evah►ation by Mary Flo 11uppert, Hollister Soil Testing & Design at a depth of :1.40" (11' 8"). Depth was limited by mechanical limitations. Sand was encountered with a loading rate of 0.7 gpd/sgft. Site conditions observed while digging; the pit indicates the syse►n was install in accordance with 1997 code Comm 83.1,3 Septic tank pumping: On 9/18/13 the septic tank was pumped by I"ri-County Sanitation (Tien Morgan), he reports the baffles are intact & the tank is in sound condition. 'r Page 2 ~f rt' System siring: Soil Percolation Rate: The SoffEvaluation Report conducted on 9/1.0/13 shows a application rate of 0.7 l;polsgft in the depth of 26 to 140". Using 2012 code Table 383.44-1 that would correspond to it Percolation rate of0 toeless than 10 minutes per inch. Soil absorption area: 1997 code Table 1, (pre 1991) Percolation rate of 0 to less than 10 minutes per inch fora Pit (sidewall area) = 165sgft. While Comm 83.12 (3) is not explicitly clear, 1 determine you multiply the number of bedrooms by the minimum side-tvall area to arrive at the minimum total sidewall area required. 1.65sgft x 3 bedrooms=495 sgft Drywel'l: the drywells have a diameter of 7' using 1997 code Table 3, 9' (Tid +1+1) with a depth of permeable strata below inlet of 8' corresponds to 251.sgft of effective absorption area. Two drywclls 251sgft = 502 total sgft available. I Determination: The required area for a 3bedroom home of this time period, soil condition, and method of absorption is 495 sgft. The available area is 502 sgft. The septic system was originally installed for a 3 bedroom home.
