Dear Mr. Heise
Enclosed are two sets of the plans for the 11 ' x 88 ' concrete manure
collection pit in the 88 ' x 120 ' free stall building. I have included some
additional drawings to show how the pit fits into the building project.
The waste storage structure was designed per standard 313 for a 60 psf/ft
internal hydrostatic load + a 100 psf surcharge for vehicle load since heavy
equipment may be operated within 5 ft of the walls. (I used MWPS TR-3
Concrete Manure Tank Design as the design reference. ) The vertical
reinforcement is #4 @ 10" on center.
I have reviewed the design of the gang slats from Midwestern Precast Co. ,
INC. from Menomonie, WI : I have enclosed a summary sheet from Eugene
Krueger (structural engineer from Cameron, WI. ) I used ASAE EP378 . 3 (Floor
and Suspended Loads On Agructural Structures Due To Use) as the design
criteria. The slat live load per unit length of 250 plf is the same as MWPS
TR-3 . The 7 3/4" wide X 6 1/2" slat has 1-#5 btm bar (1" cover) and 1-#3
top bar and the 4 ' wide gangs are cross connected at the ends and at the
center of the 10 ' gang. P r MWPS TR-3 , "where slats are interconnected
between supports so that three or more slats must deflect together, design
each span of slat between support and interconnection, and between two
interconnections, for the recommended load per unit length of slat. Design
the full span of each slat for one-half the recommended load per unit
length. " Using this criteria, the slats are adequate.
I have added 3 additional #4 reinforcement rods at the top of the pit wall
at the ends to provide lateral support where there is no restraint from the
slats.

FORM REMOVAL AND ,FINISHING, breakback form ties will be removed to a minimum
depth of 1/2 inch and the cavities will be patched with EUCO N-S GROUT which
is a non-srink grout.
