ORDINANCE TO REPEAL AND RECREATE CHAPTER 2,
RECORDS RETENTION OF THE ST. CROIX COUNTY CODE
OF ORDINANCES WITH THE ADOPTION OF THE
WISCONSIN PUBLIC RECORDS BOARD RECORDS
RETENTION/DISPOSITION SCHEDULE
1 WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Records Retention, of the St. Croix County Code of Ordinances
2 was amended and approved by the Wisconsin Public Records Board (WPRB) on June 1, 2004;
3 and
4
5 WHEREAS, upon the January 13, 2005 notification from the WPRB, the St. Croix
6 County Board of Supervisors adopted amended Chapter 2, Records Retention on March 15,
7 2005; and

9 WHEREAS, per Wisconsin Statute § 16.6 1, records retention schedules sunset 10 years
10 after WPRB approval; and

12 WHEREAS, St. Croix County's records retention schedule contained in Chapter 2,
13 Records Retention will expire on June 1, 2014; and

15 WHEREAS, in 2010, the Wisconsin Counties Association's Records Retention Task
16 Force established a Records Retention/Disposition Schedule (Schedule) that is tailored to
17 Wisconsin counties, is comprehensive and flexible, is in compliance with legal mandates and has
18 been approved by the WPRB, and

20 WHEREAS, adopting the WPRB approved Schedule does not obligate the county to
21 create a record (i.e., airport records), it only requires the county to follow the Schedule if such
22 records exist (i.e., county has created or received such records); and
23
24 WHEREAS, the Administration Committee recommends the St. Croix County Board of
25 Supervisors adopt the WPRB Schedule and repeal and recreate Chapter 2 as attached hereto.

27 THEREFORE, the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors does ordain that Chapter 2,
28 Records Retention, of the St. Croix County Code of Ordinances is repealed and recreated as
29 attached hereto.

31 FURTHER, the County Clerk is directed to send the original and two copies of the
32 required Notification of Adoption forms to the State Archivist, State Historical Society of
33 Wisconsin, 816 State Street, Madison, Wisconsin 53706-1488.

35 FURTHER, new Chapter 2, Records Retention, of the St. Croix County Code of
36 Ordinances will become effective upon execution of the Notification of Adoption forms by the
37 State Archivist and Executive Secretary of the State Public Records Board, or publication,
38 whichever occurs last.
