Real Propey Y_ I have reviewed the photographs and letter that you submitted to this
715-3 677 department describing the cabin roof replacement project. I have
determined your project will not require a land use permit. Based on your
Reding description and site information on file, it appears that the nonconforming
75-386-4675 cabin's roof replacement would in compliance with Section 17.36.1.2.b. of
the county Riverway ordinance, which allows ordinary maintenance and
repair of a nonconforming principal structure.
This decision was based on the following findings of fact with regard to
compliance with the St. Croix County Riverway ordinance:

• The project will not require structural alteration, reconstruction, or
expansion of the cabin (nonconforming principal structure) itself;
• The photos show that the cabin is inconspicuous as viewed from
the river and the roof shingles will be replaced with metal roofing
whose color will be a non-reflective earth-tone shade of brown in
compliance with standards in 17.36.H.1;
The domestic wastewater from the cabin is discharged into code
compliant holding tanks that were installed in 2003.

Dear Mr.Thompson:
The Department has evaluated your request to replace the roof on your cabin located at 224 S.Ilwaco Road. As
you are aware,the Department holds a Scenic and Limited Development Easement on the subject property.
We have determined the improvement as proposed—shingle replacement with a non-reflective earth tone(brown)
metal roof,plus insulation—is in compliance with the existing easement.Your proposal does not include structural
alterations,reconstruction or expansion.This transmittal serves as Department approval for roof replacement.

Re:roof replacement at 224 S Ilwaco Rd
Dear Mr.Thompson,
I am writing this in accordance with our phone conversation of July 20,2011. My cabin
on the St Croix River is subject to a DNR easement and needs a new roof.I request
permission to replace the worn out shingles with a metal roof. I understand the roof
needs to be a natural color and non-shinny. I'm planning on a brown roof of appropriate
material to avoid reflection.In addition I'd like to insulate the roof because of the
excessive heat that builds up in the cabin in the summer.
Thank you for your consideration of this request. I'm sending a copy of this letter to
county and township officials to inform them of the request and to begin getting any
necessary approvals from them.
