U,NTY RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CONTINUATION OF SELF- `F INSURED WORKER'S COMPENSATION PROGRAM 1 WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Worker's Compensation Law, Wisconsin Statues Ch. 102 2 provides that an employer covered by the law either insure its liability with a worker's 3 compensation insurance carrier authorized to do business in Wisconsin, or be exempted from 4 insuring liabilities with a carrier and assume the responsibility for its own worker's 5 compensation risks and payments (self-insure); and 6 7 WHEREAS, St. Croix County is an employer covered by the law and is self-insured; and 8 9 WHEREAS, the State and any of its political subdivisions may self-insure for worker's 10 compensation without a special order from the Department of Workforce Development 11 (Department)if it agrees to report faithfully all compensable injuries and agrees to comply with 12 the law and rules of the Department (Wisconsin Administrative Code § DWD 80.60(3)); and 13 14 WHEREAS, the Administration Committee recommends the continuation of the 15 County's self-insured worker's compensation program. 16 17 THEREFORE, be it resolved by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors as follows: 18 19 1. That St. Croix County will continue the self-insured worker's compensation program that 20 is currently in effect. 21 2. The County Clerk will forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Wisconsin 22 Department of Workforce Development, Worker's Compensation Division. Legal—Fiscal—Administrative Approvals: Legal Note: Fiscal Impact: By self-insuring for Worker's Compensation claim costs,the County is responsible for the first$550,000.An excess policy is purchased for catastrophic claims where costs exceed $550,000. The 2015 excess policy premium is$33,202.81.All Department budgets contribute to the Worker's Compesnation fund out of which claim costs and the excess policy are paid.
