ST RO .,, RESOLUTION DESIGNATING OFFICE OF CORPORATION
' �' COUNSEL AS REPRESENTATIVE OF THE PUBLIC
INTEREST IN TERMINATION OF PARENTAL RIGHTS CASES
1 WHEREAS,pursuant to Wis. Stat. § 48.09(6), the County Board may designate an
2 appropriate person to represent the interests of the public in certain matters involving children,
3 including cases for the termination of parental rights; and
4
5 WHEREAS, the St. Croix County District Attorney's Office was previously designated
6 by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors to prosecute cases involving the termination of
7 parental rights; and
8
9 WHEREAS, cases involving the termination of parental rights are currently being
10 handled by a private attorney through a contract with the County; and
11
12 WHEREAS,processing these matters internally rather than through a contract with a
13 private attorney will reduce costs and allow for greater consistency in processing these cases; and
14
15 WHEREAS, the Office of Corporation Counsel is willing to assume the responsibility for
16 cases involving the termination of parental rights.

18 THEREFORE, be it resolved that, effective January 5, 2016, the St. Croix County Board
19 of Supervisors approves designating the Office of Corporation Counsel as the representative of
20 the public interest in termination of parental rights cases.
Legal-Fiscal-Administrative Approvals:
Legal Note: None
Fiscal Impact: The Office of Corporation Counsel will receive reimbursement from the State of
Wisconsin for costs associated with processing termination of parental rights cases.
