ST ROI.,w ~[~w� RESOLUTION APPROVING LIBRARY EXEMPTIONS FROM
' Y 2016 COUNTY TAX LEVY
1 WHEREAS, municipalities are responsible for requesting an exemption from the county
2 library tax on an annual basis pursuant to Wis. Stat. §43.64(2); and

4 WHEREAS, under Wis. Stat. §43.64(2), municipalities with public libraries may be
5 exempt from the county library tax if they appropriate locally an amount above the defined
6 minimum; and

8 WHEREAS, if a municipality qualifies for an exemption based on the calculation in
9 Wis. Stat. §43.64(2), the municipality must make written application to the county board, of the
10 county, for approval of the exemption; and
11
12 WHEREAS, all the municipalities on the attached worksheet have made written
13 application and meet the exemption calculation.

15 THEREFORE, be it resolved by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors that the
16 attached municipalities are exempt from the 2016 county library tax levy.

Exemption from the County Library Tax
Under Wisconsin Statute 43.64(2),municipalities with public libraries may be exempt from the county
library tax if they appropriate locally an amount above the defined minimum.In order to determine if a
municipality may request an exemption from the county library tax for 2017(the tax the county board
will set in the fall of 2016 and expend in 2017),complete the following calculations.
"The State of WI 2013-2015 Budget includes language that"allows municipalities participating in a joint library to be exempt from the county library tax,
provided the municipality library levy is maintained at no less than the average of the last three years".
