Gentlemen: WHEREAS, it is common knowledge to the members of your undersigned Committee, the members of this County Board, and to the people of the State of Wisconsin generally that the real property taxes as presently determined and assessed are repressive, discourage improvements, and place an undue hardship on those with fixed incomes; and WHEREAS, it generally appears that the real property tax burden to a large extent is the result of increased costs of financing public education; and WHEREAS, it is the belief of your undersigned Committee that the Wisconsin State Sales Tax is a more appropriate source of financing a larger portion of the costs of public education, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Wisconsin County Board Association consider the adoption and presentation of a resolution to the Wisconsin State Legislature requesting legislation to make a larger portion of the Wisconsin State Sales Tax available for and to be allocated to the cost of the operation of our public school system; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be submitted to the chairman of the respective county boards throughout the State of Wisconsin and our own state legislators. Dated this 19th day of May, 1970. S/Darrel C. Graf Chairman, Legislative Committee S/James Knutson S/Lloyd A. Olson ATTEST: I, Norman Stegmann, County Clerk of the County of Door, Wisconsin, do hereby certify that the above Resolution was properly introduced and passed at a regular meeting of the Door County Board of Supervisors this 19th day of May, 1970.
