HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 1970 (25) RESOLUTION # 25 WHEREAS, increased labor and material costs for mainten- ance and improvement of highways and streets of the political subdivision of this State have increased at an accelerated pace compared to the increase of revenues derived from highway use taxes and, WHEREAS, the additional revenues required for highway im- provement and maintenance places an additional burden on the property tax payer who is already saturated with this regressive tax, and, WHEREAS, the cost of maintaining and improving all highways in the State of Wisconsin should be borne by the users of said highways, therefore, WHEREAS, the Wisconsin sales tax is imposed upon sales of motor oil, tires, automobiles, repa-ir and towing charges, and road construction machinery and, WHEREAS, the aforementioned sources of sales tax revenue are all related, in one way or another, to highway use, and, WHEREAS, this tax revenue is presently deposited in the State's general fund and, WHEREAS, tax revenue which is generated by or from highway use should be used for highway purposes, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Langlade County Board of Supervisors that the 1971 session of the Wisconsin Legislature is urged to change the appropriate sections of Wisconsin Law so as to deposit into the segregated highway fund all tax revenues generated by or from highway use and, BE IT RESOLVED, these additional revenues be apportioned to the political subdivisions of this State using the present for- mula of distribution, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County Clerk be and is hereby instructed to send copies of this resolution to the Executive Secret- aries of the Wisconsin County Boards Association, Wisconsin Town's Association, League of Municipalities and to Governor Warren P. Knowles, Senator Rueben LaFave, and Assemblyman Milton McDougal, and all County Board Chairmen. Dated this 9th day of June, 1970. S_/ James K. Peters State of Wis.)
