WHEREAS, in August 1971, Richard M. Nixon, the President of the United
States, invoked a national wage price freeze, and
WHEREAS, the Wage:Price Board has set guide lines.of 5.5% for increases
ii
of wages, and
WHEREAS,industry,business', and governmental units.were expected to �I
follow these guide lines, and
WHEREAS, the Legislature's Joint Finance Committee at Madison voted 8 to
2 to recommend a salary boost to lawmakersfrom the present $8,900 a year to
$13,419 a year, starting next year, and
WHEREAS, the pay would go up in two steps from $25,000 a year to $38,903
a year for the chief.executive elected in,1974' and to $45.,032 a year for the
governor starting in 1979, and

WHEREAS, it.should be.the .duty of governmental units to set the example
in holding wages within the price guide lines, - f.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE.IT RESOLVED, by the St. Croix County Board of Super-
visors duly assembled this 28th day of February, 1972, that the.St. Croix County
Board of Supervisors, go.on record_opposing these exorbitant and large increases
that the Joint Finance Committee are recommending to the Legislature, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this.opposing resolution be sent to
the Honorable President Richard,M. Nixon, the.Honerable Governor Patrick J. Lucey,
Senators Gaylord Nelson and William Proxmire, Congressman vin_O,'Kgn-sk, our State
Senator =Robert'P., Knowles-., our Representative Leo I-EQ�Iohn to the Wisconsin
County Boards Association, and to all other countie&4-in the,State of Wisconsin.
