WHEREAS, the current practice of assessing agricultural
lands near or adjacent to cities and villages is based on the potential value
of such land for other purposes, such as subdividing, and
WHEREAS, agricultural lands so assessed under current practices
cannot produce sufficient income to justify the increased taxes, and
WHEREAS, continued uses of this approach for assessment to
agricultural land will force farmers to liquidate their holdings, and
WHEREAS, the keeping of these agricultural lands in production
is in the best interests of the citizens of Wisconsin, and

WHEREAS; �'" "` has been introduced into the state
legislature, and would provide that real property used as "agricultural"
shall continue to be so classified when used for the production of crops,
without regard for such factors as potential va.lue it might acquire by
change in use such as for subdivision or other more intensive purposes, and
WHEREAS, the proposed bill further provides for application of a
"roll-bask tax" to be applied when such lands are committed to a different use.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the St. Croix County

Board of Supervisors go on record in support of the passage of ;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County Clerk be instructed
to send copies of this resolution to Senator Knowles, Representative Mohn,
