Adjourned: 2:00m p Present: Leon Berenschot, Ronald Raymond. Art Jensen, Chris Bethke, Lois Bum, Dave Fodroczi, Lee Milligan, Jim Janke, Mary Lestrud and Kim Reaman The meeting was called to order by Chairman Chris Bethke. The date of the next meeting was set for November 7, 2000. Berenschot moved that the agenda be adopted as presented. Burn seconded the motion. Motion carried. Berenschot moved that the previous meeting's minutes be approved. Raymond seconded the motion. Motion carried. Berenschot moved that the vouchers be approved. Raymond seconded the motion. Motion carried. Administrative Report Federal Budget Update—No report. State Budget Update—No report. 2001 County Budget Review—Reaman learned on Friday (Sept 29) that the Finance Committee removed the $7,000 included in the budget to return the Family Living Position to full time. Planning Department's Report Fodroczi reviewed a list of September vouchers totaling S7,827.83. Berenschot moved that the vouchers be approved as presented. Bum' seconded the motion. Motion tamed. Fall Appliance Collection: Fodroczi reported that the September 16th Appliance Roundup at three sites sponsored by Glenwood City, Town of Richmond and City of Hudson was very productive. Contract services provided by JR's Appliance collected 376 appliances at the three sites. This year's total collection of 675 appliances from two events was about 100 appliances less than 1999. The same contractor is available for 2001 collections with no increase in fees. 1 Because there were no Saturdays available, they have decided to try running the program on a Sunday afternoon. Reaman will develop an evaluation to determine if the needs of the officers attending the training have been met. County Fair Report—Polly, the 4-H secretary, is nearing completion on the County Fair results At this time, there is no additional report. A2ricuiture Agent's Report Milligan has been working with several agriculture agents and UWEX state specialists on developing a new agricultural farm management analysis educational program. It is expected to be completed in a couple of months. Milligan presented an educational program on mycotoxins and molds. The program was reported in the Country Today. Area agents also are utilizing the handouts. Milligan has harvested the corn silage population plot on the John Schottler farm. A corn grain population plot will be harvested later this fall. Dairy marketing has been identified by Milligan as a high priority for 2000-2001. Producers and agribusinesses have requested the program. Milligan attended a risk management in-service on diary marketing. Milligan participated in the Ag Clean Sweep Farm visits focussed on livestock housing, raising dairy replacements, dairy herd management, crop issues, pricing standing crops, crop storage issues, farm business arrangements, weed control, and dairy herd expansion issues. In October, Milligan will be working with crop producers participating.in the Profitable and Efficient Production Systems (PEPS) yield and cost of production programs. Milligan will continue developing winter educational programs including dairy marketing, corn silage Production, Hispanic labor, and farm management concerns. Family Living Agent's Report Lestrud introduced guest, Marilyn Olson Lear, HCE WI Vice President for Program, who told about state and St. Croix County HCE projects. Sixteen St. Croix County members recently attended the state conference and Leadership Institute in Green Bay. St. Croix County received an award for their Stitches of Love project in which they made needed items for handicapped children served by the Birth to Three program. Other HCE programs included three meetings taught by Lestrud on using pumpkins, squash, and sweet potatoes in family meals. 50 HCE leaders attended these meetings and plan to teach the 3
