The meeting was called to order by Chairman Chris Bethke at 12:30 p.m.
Date of next meeting was set for Tuesday, October 3, 2000 at 12:30 p.m.
Art Jensen moved that the agenda be adopted as presented. Leon Berenschot seconded the motion. Motion
carried.

ADMINISTRATIVE REPORT
Federal Budget Update—No report.
State Budget Update—No report.
County Budget Update—Reaman distributed the updated proposed budget for 2001, which included the
arbitration figures for salary.
133 Contracts for Extension Agents—Reaman distributed the 133 contracts to be signed by the county
Extension Committee. It is the contract between St. Croix County and the Board of Regents of the University of
Wisconsin System from July 1, 2000 through June 30, 20001 for agents to conduct programs in agriculture, 4-H
youth development, family living and community resource development.

expenses from the horticultural contract for services to the respective line item in each program area. Seconded
by Jensen. Motion Passed.
WACEC Directory—Reaman distributed the 2000-2001 WACEC membership directory to committee
members.
4H YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Lead on the Edge 8t Grade Camp-12 campers participated in the Lead on the Edge 4-H Camp. Reaman
distributed a copy of the evaluation from the camp. Responding to the question "What is one thing you leaned
during this camp experience? 5 campers indicated they learned there are many different ways to make
decisions; 2 specifically stated that making decisions the same way in all situations is not good; and the
remaining 5 campers wrote an assortment of responses all related to making decisions. The camp program was
very successful and Reaman anticipates participation will continue to grow annually.

RESOURCE AGENT'S REPORT
Business Counseling was held in Hudson on August 29. The next session is scheduled for Sept 26.
The Extension-funded land use education specialist position remains open. There were three qualified
candidates, but one declined the offer and two accepted other positions. The position will be re-advertised.
UW-River Falls and UW-Oshkosh have applied for a DNR grant to study groundwater flow in the vicinity of
municipal wells in St. Croix and Pierce Counties. Janke was asked to help present the results to municipal
governments in St. Croix County if the project is funded.
The City of Hudson and the Chamber of Commerce have asked Janke for assistance in an applied research
project to analyze parking in downtown Hudson. Janke and the UW-River Falls Survey Center have developed
a proposal that will be presented on September 8.
AG AGENT'S REPORT
Farm City Day was held at the Ken-Rich Farm (Ken&Richard Peterson's). Over 2,500 people attended. This
event provides an excellent opportunity to educate urban people on how their food is produced. Milligan
coordinates and trains the 40-45 tour guides.
The corn silage population trial will be harvested in early September. A follow-up corn silage program is being
scheduled for November. Topics will include corn silage type hybrids and population effects on feed quality.

Farm visits include farm business arrangements, farm building design, crops. farm management issues, swine
and.dairy issues, and youungstock care. - -
Input was sought on programming efforts for 2000-2001. Dairy and gain marketing, dairy cow transition care,
farm management issues, Hispanic labor management and crop management issues were discussed as priority
issues. Milligan will also cooperate with LCWD staff and Paul Kivlin on an environmental quality program for
livestock producers.
FAMILY LIVING AGENT'S REPORT
Mary spoke about HCE activities for fall and shared an award book, which showed HCE involvement with
youth during the past year. HCE is sending 13 women to the State Conference in Green Bay September 12-14.
Mary will help the group focus on diversity awareness during the next year. glary is helping the group plan a
NW District Fall Meeting and a St. Croix County Fall Council. She is also designing a Leader Training
Program on pumpkins, squash, and sweet potatoes.
The Family Resource Center has hired two more women to do home visiting and parent education for parents of
young children. Mary is currently working with the nominations committee and the fund raising committee and
continues to serve as president of the board.
Mary will attend her national association meeting in Maryland where she will receive a Distinguished Service
Award. Mary is one of two Family Living Agents in Wisconsin receiving this award in 2000.
