Date of next meeting was set for August 1, 2000. Berenschot moved that the agenda be adopted as presented. Jensen seconded the motion. Motion carried. Jensen moved that the previous meeting's minutes be approved. Berenschot seconded the motion. Motion carred. Berenschot moved that the vouchers be approved. Raymond seconded the motion. Motion carried. Administrative Report Federal Budget Update—No report. State Budget Update—No report. County Budget Update—Reaman will prepare a preliminary budget for the committee's. reaction at the August meeting. Two items which have been discussed are increasing the Family Living Position and possibly replacing the copy machine. State WACEC Convention Report—Bethke reported that Leon Berenschot was elected Vice President of the State WACEC Board. Bethke and Berenschot reported on the activities and _ educational sessions conducted at the State WACEC Convention. 4H Youth Development 4-11 Summer Assistant Reaman introduced the 4-H.Summer Assistant, Sarah Kimball. Sarah attended the Summer Assistant training and has worked on camp counselor training, State 4-H Conference Orientation, Clothing Camp, County to County Exchange, Clothing Revue and 4-H Camp. 1 4-11 Summer Camp-76 Campers attended the younger camp and 60 campers attended the older camp. The camp program has been adapted for the 7`h grade campers. The program that has been designed is more challenging and age appropriate for that group. Fair Preparation—Reaman reported that preparations for the County Fair are progressing nicely. The 4-H secretary is entering all the entries into the Blue Ribbon Fair Program to generate judging sheets. Report on Group Study Exchange to Africa—Reaman reported on the Group Study Exchange to Africa. It was a very exciting professional development. One of the projects the team visited was an anti-poverty project in Addis Ababa Ethiopia. This particular project utilized marnv Extension philosophies on leadership development and sustainability. J Planning Department's Report Fodroczi reviewed a list of June vouchers totaling $130,409.23. Berenschot moved that the vouchers be approved as presented.Raymond seconded the motion. Motion carried. 2000 Grant Distribution to Municipalities: Fodroczi distributed a spreadsheet of the initial 2000 recycling grant distribution to member communities. Checks totaling$122,240 were sent to the 26 municipalities for 50% of their projected 2000 recycling expenses. The balance of available funds will be distributed in early 2000 after their annual reports are submitted and costs are verified. Fall Appliance Roundup and Clean Sweep The second appliance collection of the year will be held on September 16th at sites in Glenwood City.and the Town of Richmond. The fall Hazardous Waste Clean Sweep is scheduled for September 23rd in New Richmond. Staff will be making extra effort to get farmers to register faun chemicals, because we lose reimbursement from the State if they bring them in as household waste. Economic Impact of Recycling in WI Report: Fodroczi summarized a recently released report from the Associated Recyclers of Wisconsin that documents the economic benefits of recycling. The industry yclin�. u generates over - ''y g er $1 billion m wages, $�.7 billion in sales, 31,000 direct recycling jobs and almost 50,000 indirect jobs. Resource Agent Report Janke has met with the town boards in Hudson and Warren about conducting a drinking water testing and education program this fall. Both endorsed the program. Somerset had earlier endorsed a program this fall, so three towns will have the program. Rush River has contacted Janke and would like to be part of the next round in 2001. Small Business Management Counseling was held on June 27 in Hudson with 3 clients. The next counseling date is set for July 31. 2 Janke has arranged a meeting with Larry Swain and the staff from the County Planning and Zoning Departments to discuss direct farm marketing issues. The Extension Land Use Specialist position has been advertised in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune as well as on various internet web sites. The deadline is July 10. Thus far the only application has been from a candidate in the Milwaukee area. The deadline will be extended and more advertising done if there isn't an acceptable pool of candidates. Aa Agent's Report Milligan Coordinated the St. Croix,Pierce, Pepin, and Dunn Counties Parlor and Freestall Tour. .The tour featured different styles of parlors at the Brian and Kevin Lee farm and Norbert and Dave Bechel farm. Over 350 people participated in the tour. Greg Andrews, Pierce County Extension Agriculture Agent, coordinated the Crop Care Clinic at Jerry and Kurt Afdahl farm. The clinic focussed on weed and insect control in corn and soybeans. The clinic will move to Pierce County in 2001. Milligan is working with Nina Cripe, general chairperson of Farm-City Day to plan the event on August 12. It will be held at the Rich and Ken Peterson farm. Milligan and Chuck Kruschke develop and coordinate the educational tours. - Area agricultural lenders and L WEX agriculture agents have planned the annual Western District Ag Lenders Conference for January 12 at UW-Stout in Menomonie. National and international farm management specialist, Dr. David Kohl,will be guest speaker. Dr. Kohl will be addressing farm management issues and the short and long-term outlook for agriculture nationally and internatioralIy. The Western District Cow-Calfprogram will be November 16 or 17. Milligan is in the process of planning a corn silage field.day for August or September. The Dairy Herd Operator's Seminar is scheduled for January 11 in Eau Claire. The Pathological and Nutrition Seminar is scheduled for November 9, site to be determined. Western District Dairy Herd Health meetings will be held March 13, 14, and-15. The Dairy Transition Cow program will be held in St. Croix County February 13 and 20. Labor management and risk management meetings are being developed. Milligan has been working with Paul Kivlm,nutrient and pest management specialist at UW- River Falls, on the development of an environmental quality assurance program. Farm visits have included farm management issues, farm facilities,pasture management, getting started in a small livestock enterprise, and crop management issues. 3 Family Liying Agent's Report Lestrud reported on summer youth activities that she sponsored in June including the 4-H Sewing Workshop. 24 Youth made polar fleece shirts with matching headbands and mittens. The July quilting training for 4-H youth will feature quilted pillows. The July Food Fair will include the 4-H Foods Revue, 5 action exhibits, and all the food judged for the St. Croix County Fair. products Lestrud also is in the process of helping HCE members plan their annualrogram application and their sponsorship of the I`TVvT District Fail Council. p award Three Master Food Preservers were re-certified in June at an all-day training. Lestrud trained Western District Family Living Agents in Family Resource Center start-up. p In July, Lestrud will go through the process of post tenure review.
