COUNCIL ON AGING MEETING
October 19,2000
St. Croix County Government Center
CALL TO ORDER: Chairman, Rich Peterson, called the
meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.
ROLL CALL: Members present were: Richard Peterson, John
Mortensen, Mary Lou -Smith, Margaret Wolske, Glenn Hoberg,
Marguerite Sumner, and Rhoda Wood. Carolyn Weisenburger,
Ralph Bader, Florence Patrick and Doris Teigen were excused.
Also present were: Barb Blaisdell, Sandy Gehrmann, Shirley
Marlette, Jolayne Mehr, Janice Thompson, Cindy Ahrens, Betty
Jordahl, Pat Otto, Gladys and Ernie Ellefson, Donna Lamson,
and Esther Rapp.
Introductions were made.
ADOPTION OF AGENDA: A motion was made by Margaret
Wolske, and seconded by Marguerite Sumner to adopt the agenda
as printed; motion carried.
DATE OF NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be
Thursday, November 16, 2000 at 8:30 a.m. at the Government
Center.
ACTION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES: A motion was made by

John Mortensen and seconded by Rhoda Wood to approve the
minutes as printed; motion carried.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Budget Update: 2001 Department on Aging Budget in the
amount of $122,800, was approved as submitted.
NEW BUSINESS:
Operating Rules: Changes in membership and meeting time
were discussed. Next month the first reading of the
amendments will take place.
Conference Report: Cindy Ahrens and Pat Otto attended
Senior Center Conference in Wisconsin Dells and gave
excellent presentations. The Keynoter was a motivational,
dynamic speaker. The theme was: "Know Your Market".
Other sessions were on activity planning, public relations.
volunteer management, special events, fundraising and how to
work with Boards. Discussion followed.
85.21 DOT Grant Review: Barb Blaisdell explained the 85.21
DOT Grant for 2001. Dr. Hobart made motion, seconded by
Marguerite Sumner to approve the grant request. Motion
carried.
Staff Re orfs:
Sandy: Nash Finch sent a check for $1900.00 for our Home-
Delivered meal Program.
The Croixview Satellite opened on October 16'. It is doing well,
serving between 7 and 18 per day.
The Blood Sugar Screening and Tetanus Shot Schedule was
handed out. People are asked to schedule appointments ahead of
time and should not eat for 8 hours prior to testing.
Sandy presented information on Wisconsin's labor shortage. It
will be a long-term problem for the State. Ultimately, St. Croix
County may fare better than other counties because it has a
higher percentage of younger workers who have more years to be
in the job market.
Barbs Report: Special transportation requests were discussed.
In regards to Insurability, A Motion was made by Margaret
Wolske and seconded by John Mortensen to have Barb study this
issue. Deerfield may- still use through October. Motion was
made by John Mortensen and seconded by Margaret Wolske to
freeze usage to those without certificates of insurance.
SITE/CENTER REPORTS:
DEER PARK: Enjoyed Leadership Training. Enjoyed Fogie
Follies, train ride to Osceola. Eight people are participating in
the computer classes. Discussion followed on the Veteran's
Evening meal to take place on Veterans Day.
GLENWOOD CITY: All enjoyed the Leadership Training.
Many new people from Downing and Connorsville are enjoying
meals at the site.
BALDWIN: Trip to Cady Cheese Factory participants are
planning a van trip to Branson next week. A Halloween Dance
and costume party will take place tomorrow night. Martha
Mabis will do a presentation in October.
HAMMOND/ROBERTS: Participants enjoyed the Fogie
Follies. The Senior Center will have an Open House on
November 29thfrom 1 :00-3:00 p.m.
HUDSON: Willow River picnic was discussed. Gentleman's
coffee group meets 8:00-10:00 a.m. daily. Massage Therapy
provided on Monday mornings. On November 14' the
Recognition Dinner will be held.
NEW RICHMOND: Discussion included the Kitchen Band, trip
to Menomonie, upcoming Halloween Party. Many enjoyed the
Leadership Training.
SOMERSET: Packer/Viking sweatshirt day is coming soon to
Somerset. Reported on gourd decoration, how many
marshmallows are in the jar and the fact that they need a cleaning
person.
RIVER FALLS: The cards are overflowing. Foot care was
successful. An organ was donated. Bake sale was successful.
Christmas party will be at West wind.
WOODVILLE: Attended Quilters Play in New Richmond.
Leadership Training--was -enjoyed. Cards and bingo _are going
well. Fogie Follies also enjoyed.
A motion was made by Dr. Hobert and seconded by Margaret
Wolske to adjourn meeting at 11:00 a.m. : motion carried.
