CALL TO ORDER: Chairman, Rich Peterson, called the
meeting to order at 8:32 a.m.
ROLL CALL: Members present were John Mortensen,
Carolyn Weisenburger, Rich Peterson, Marguerite Sumner,
Margaret Wolske, Florence Patrick, Doris Teigen, and Ralph
Bader. Glenn Hoberg, Mary Lou Smith, and Rhoda Wood were
excused. Also present were Sandy Gehrmann, Jonna Fedie,
Barb Blaisdell, Jolayne Mehr, Pat Otto, Janice Thompson, Betty
Jordahl, Shirley Marlette, Cindy Ahrens, and Gladys Ellefson.
ADOPTION OF AGENDA: A motion was made by John
Mortensen and seconded by Margaret Wolske to adopt the
agenda as printed; motion carried.
DATE OF NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be
Thursday, August 17, 2000 at 8:30 a.m. at the Government
Center.
ACTION OF PREVIOUS S: John Mortensen
pointed out that page two, Election of Officers, should read
Mary Lou Smith not Mary Lou Peterson and on page three,
Florence Patrick seconded to close nominations. A motion was
made by Marguerite Sumner and seconded by John Mortensen to
approve the minutes as printed with corrections; motion carried.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
There was no unfinished business.
NEW BUSINESS:
Nutrition Program Meal Survey Results: Three surveys
were returned. The Hammond Nutrition Site will open
soon. A satellite site at Croixview in Hudson is also in the
planning stages.
Group Home Request: A motion was made by Ralph Bader
and seconded by Florence Patrick to allow group home residents
to attend the dining sites with group home supervision; motion
carried.
Grants Applied For/Received: The Department on Aging has
applied for a Community Links Project Grant in the amount of
$9,392.00. Faith In Action received $10,000 from the Robert
Wood Johnson Foundation and the Census Education Grant
totaled $7,679.00.
9:30 a.m. Sterling House Presentation - KathyDom: Kathy
Dilley from Alterra Sterling House conducted a presentation.
Staff Reports:
Nutrition, housing, and social security for elderly women was
discussed.
The Brookdale Foundation has started 165 adult daycare facilities
across the Country and St. Croix County has two of them.
There will be a Flu Vaccine shortage in 2000. The shots will not
be given in St. Croix County until November.
Sheriff Hillstead's news release regarding pyramid schemes was
discussed.
Sandy discussed nutritional risk of seniors in our County. We
will be working with Public Health to lower the risk of
malnutrition.
The Older Americans Act and Long Term Care were discussed
as was EBT, the new Wisconsin Quest card. The dining sites
have not been receiving food stamps recently.
Farm City Days will be held Saturday, August 12d' at KenRich
Farms on Highway J. between Hammond and Baldwin.
SITE/CENTER REPORTS:
DEER PARK: The dishwasher was repaired. Martha Mabis
did a presentation last week.
GLENWOOD CITY: BINGO and cards are going well.
Glenwood City volunteers will clean the building today for the
County Fair and will donate a flag.
BALDWIN: A new floor was put in the kitchen. Participants
will be going to Spring Valley on August 10'. The center will
have people do sewing and carving demonstrations at the County
Fair.
HUDSON: All equipment is in the new center. Youth group
came and played cards with the seniors. Carl Strom performed at
the Birthday Party.
NEW RICHMOND: Deerfield will use the van on Tuesdays
and Fridays. A van trip is being scheduled for August 18' to
Rice Lake. On July 3rd, the center had a picnic potluck. BINGO
and cards are being played. The center is selling greetings
cards for a fundraiser. Once a month footcare will be available
for $15.00 and Pat will give blood pressure. There will be
demonstrations on woodcarving and paper cutting at the County
Fair.
SOMERSET: Today is "Bring a Friend to Lunch Day". The
Panhandlers performed on July 3' and participants enjoyed
"Red, White, and Blue Day". A van trip is being scheduled for
August 19' to the Phipps Center in Hudson.
RIVER FALLS: No representative present.
WOODVI LLE: A van trip is being planned in August to go to
Menomonie. BINGO is going well and there is a new senior
center sign on building.
A motion was made by Ralph Bader and seconded by John
Mortensen to approve all van trips and to authorize Deerfield's
use of the New Richmond van after hours on Tuesdays and
Fridays; motion carried.
A motion was made by Marguerite Sumner and seconded
Margaret Wolske to adjourn meeting at 11 :06 a.m. ; motion
carried.
