August 22, 2000
Special Budget Meeting
MEMBERS PRESENT: Julie Speer, Chuck Mehls and Esther Wentz. Tom
Rose and Bob Gunderson were excused. Meeting called to order by
Chair Speer at 9 : 00 a.m. Wentz made the motion to adopt the agenda
as presented with a second by Mehls. Carried.
STAFF PRESENT: Sheriff Dennis Hillstead, Jail Captain Karen
Humphrey, Administrative Assistant Mary Martell, Patrol Captain
Robert Klanderman, Chief Deputy Ron Volkert, Medical Examiner
Marty Shanklin, District Attorney Eric Johnson, Victim Witness
Coordinator Ann Gustafson, Office Manager Jane Esbenson Moore,
Child Support Administrator Lynn Holmes and Renee Carufel .
Date of next meeting will be Sept . 7th at 9 : 00 a.m.
SECURITY CAMERAS: Humphrey reported Dave Best has not gotten back
to her regarding the cameras so she is presuming they are in the
maintenance budget .
MEDICAL EXAMINER' S BUDGET: The two main increases in the budget
are : increase of 179 hours of call-time for deputies per year and
two more appearances per month with a $5 . 00 increase per call .
Motion by Mehls/Wentz to accept the Medical Examiner' s budget of
$84, 690 as presented. Carried,
DISTRICT ATTORNEY' S BUDGET: Johnson explained any increases in the
District Attorney' s budget . Law books are $1000 less than last
year. The office is in need of a new color laser printer. The
budget was reviewed. The over all increase was 1 . 08%. Motion by
Wentz/Speer to accept the District Attorney' s budget of $306, 989
as presented. Carried.
VICTIM WITNESS ' BUDGET: Gustafson went over each line item. The
biggest increase is in paper and postage. State reimbursement
will be around 70%. Victim Witness expects grants totaling
$96, 600 . Motion by Mehls/Wentz to accept the Victim Witness budget
for $131, 676 . Carried.

JAIL' S BUDGET: Committee reviewed the budget as presented by I'
Humphrey. The medical and dental services had a large increase
due to inmates receiving more medical care. The new equipment line
item included equipment for the CERT staff (Correctional Emergency
Response Team) . The budget as presented has a 9 .25% increase.
Motion by Mehls/Wentz to approve the jail budget for
$2, 268, 691 . 00 . Carried.
BOAT: Discussion of the boat was held. The committee has reviewed
the four models presented earlier. The Sheriff recommends the
Hydro-Sports Vector 2000 model for $38, 836 . The DNR will
