Administrative Report
Federal Budget Update—No report.
State Budget Update—No report.
St. Croix County 1999 Budget Update—Chris reported on the finance committee meeting he
attended. He received directions to include the printer and copier in the 2000 budget.
4-H Summer Assistant Position—Both candidates had serious schedule conflicts. Nelson had a
previous commitment to work at State 4-H Congress, June 14-18 and she was also not available July
26-August 6. Staude was not able to start until June 14. Upon deliberation with Deb Kathan, it was
decided to split the position between the two candidates. The position was offered to Linnea Nelson
for June 1-14 and Sarah Staude June 14 to August 13. Both candidates accepted the position as
offered. May 13, Reaman learned that Nelson's mother had passed away and now declined the
position. The position will be vacant until Staude begins on June 14.
Voice Mail—Bruce Brantner, Emergency Communications, is working on voice mail for the Ag
Center. The completion date is unknown.
Flagpole—The flagpole has been ordered form the American Flagpole Company and will be installed
by July 4.

AG Day Report: Fodroczi reported that Mary Barney participated in the UW-River Falls Ag Day
on May 7'. She displayed recycled materials and talked about waste reduction and recycling to
approximately Fifty K-2 students from all over the metro area.
Clean Sweep Report: Fodroczi reported that the Clean Sweep program held on May 22' at the
Highway Shop of USH 23 in the Town of Hudson went very well. Almost 14,000 pounds of
hazardous waste was collected from 209 participants, including 189 household, 11 small businesses
and 9 farms. Other items collected included 322 fluorescent tubes, 98 pounds of ni-cad and button
batteries, and a yard box of computer equipment. The five-hour program at one site allowed for a
smoother traffic flow and shorter waits for participants.
Update on Funding for Recycling: Fodroczi reported that several groups were working on a
compromise funding solution to be presented to the Joint Finance Committee of the legislature for its
work on the State Budget. He distributed copies of the letter and resolution sent on the Committee's
behalf.
Resource Agent's Report
Janke reported that three businesses received management assistance during May, including one
established business considering whether to open a second location. Follow-up assistance is being
provided to assess the feasibility of the additional store. Business counseling sessions are scheduled in
Hudson on June 23.
Janke gave a presentation on Y2K preparedness at the Family Resource Center. Jest Cap is
sponsoring a regional Y2K program on June 22, and Janke has been asked to be a presenter.
Janke distributed a map of nitrate levels in wells that participated in the recent drinking water testing in
Richmond. He made the map using Arc View GIS software. The points on the map are linked to a
database. Clicking on a given point brings up the data for that location.
A drinking water program is scheduled in St. Joseph in October. Janke is meeting with the town
boards of Erin Prairie and Stanton to see if they would be interested in a program in September.
Berenschot moved to adjourn. Burri seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Meeting Adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Art Jensen
