COUNCIL ON AGING MEETING
June 29, 1999

CALL TO ORDER: Vice Chairman, Lois Burri, called
the meeting to order at 8.28 a.m.
ROLL CALL: Members present were Lois Burri, John
Mortensen, Rhoda Wood, Mary Lou Smith, Ann Healy,
Jean Schroeder, and Phil Hammer. Herb Giese was
excused. Also present were Sandy Gehrmann, Jonna
Fedie, Cindy Icard, Barb Blaisdell, Gladys Ellefson,
Janice Thompson, Shirley Marlette, Peggy Patterson,
Chuck Mehls, and John Krizek.
It was announced that the agenda was not published in
County paper so this will be an informational meeting.
DATE OF NEXT MEETINGS: The next meeting will
be Thursday, August 19th at 8:30 a.m.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
OAA Reauthorization/Redesign: A video was shown
on Redesign and discussion followed. The Department on
Aging will develop a County Level Senior Statesmanship
Program that will be held at the Government Center in
October. There is a bill in the house for a Family
Caregiver Support Program.

and decided it covers all programs.
Nutrition Marketing: Discussion on a marketing
strategy to increase participation at the Nutrition Sites. A
site needs to look good, feel good, and the food needs to
taste good to keep participants coming back.
Staff Reports:
Sandy congratulated Mary Lou Smith on her retirement
from the Child Support Office.
SITEXENTER REPORTS:
DEER PARK: Things are going well.
GLENWOOD CITY: Green Thumb worker has started.
BALDWIN: A Dutch Days Breakfast is being planned
for August 7'. There will be card parties on July 8' and
22nd Call Donna to make your reservation. A senior
dance is being planned.
HUDSON: There is blood pressure and Bridge on
Tuesdays. Had a Birthday Party and the Rolling Hills 4-H
Club performed.
NEW RICHMOND: Participants enjoyed the pontoon
trip. Had monthly Birthday Party and blood pressure was
given.
RIVER FALLS: A Pie and Ice Cream Social is being
planned. Foot Care and Blood Pressure checks are being
offered.
