Brantner, Director DATE: August 10, 1999 COPIES TO: COUNTY BOARD OFFICE COUNTY CLERK COMMITTEE MEMBERS NEWS MEDIA/NOTICE BOARD r MINUTES EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE August 16, 1999 Present: Chuck Mehls, Gene Hanson - County Board; Bruce Brantner - Emergency Communications; Jack Colvard - Emergency Government; Bob Klanderman (for Ron Volkert) - Sheriff' s Department; Jim VanderWyst - New Richmond Fire Dept; Dick Trende - Hudson Police Department, and Greg Carlson WITC. Excused: Nancy Bieraugel - County Board The meeting was called to order by Chuck Mehls at 9: 00 a.m. . The agenda was adopted on a Hanson/VanderWyst MOTION. The next meeting will be on September 28, 1999 at 1 : 00 p.m. . Minutes of the July 12, 1999 meeting were approved on a Hanson/Trende MOTION. Unfinished Business : COMMUNICATIONS VAN RESEARCH: Mehls reviewed the Communication Van proposal and the information requested by the Finance Committee, when it was presented on 08/10/99. Additional cost estimates for comparison, are being requested from other manufacturers of this type of vehicle. Job Description Review: The Committee reviewed a suggested change from the Emergency Government Committee, in the Communication Director' s position description, as follows : "may be called upon to act as a Deputy Emergency Government Director, in an emergency situation, in the absence of the Emergency Government Director". Hanson/Trende MOTION to approve the suggested change in the position description as recommended by the Emergency Government Committee. Brantner will rewrite it to include the suggested change and to meet current ADA requirements and to contact Deb Kathan to review it New Business : National Public Safety Planning Advisory Committee Membership- Brantner informed the Committee that he was requested to serve on this regional committee. It doesn' t meet on a regular basis, but will incur some additional costs ,when it does -- - meet . Preliminary 2000 Budget : Brantner reviewed, with the Committee, the various line items that reflected any changes over last years budget . The budget was approved as presented on a Trende/VanderWyst MOTION. Director' s Report: Brantner attended the APCO Conference held in Minneapolis and reviewed information from conference for Committee menbers . A Workers Compensation issue is still pending for one of his employees. He hopes it will be taken care of in the very near future . Brantner attended the Visions Computer classes presented here in the Government Center, last week. Bills and Vouchers : The bills for July were approved on a Hanson/Trende MOTION. EMS, FIRE, & Law Enforcement issues : EMS - Greg Carlson asked questions about Visions and computer aided dispatch. Fire - No issues were brought before the Committee. Law - Hudson Police Department is looking at some remodeling in their department. Bob Klanderman requested that radio channel 3 be used for checking wants and warrants . That channel would free up the main law enforcement channels .
