ST. C}l UN "Y. RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE
" - � TOWN OF TROY AGRICULTURAL ENTERPRISE AREA
1 WHEREAS, the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection is accepting
2 petitions for the designation of Agricultural Enterprise Areas throughout the State of Wisconsin;
3 and
4
5 WHEREAS, an Agricultural Enterprise Area(AEA)is an area of contiguous land primarily
6 in agricultural use that has been designated by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and
7 Consumer Protection (DATCP)in response to a locally developed petition; and
8
9 WHEREAS, agriculture is an important component of the St. Croix County economy,
10 landscape, and rural character; and
11
12 WHEREAS, St. Croix County believes that establishment of an Agricultural Enterprise
13 Area(AEA) will further protect agricultural land and enhance the local agricultural economy;
14 and
15
16 WHEREAS, the St. Croix County Farmland Preservation Plan and Comprehensive Plan
17 adopted November 5th, 2012 identifies the protection and preservation of agricultural land as a
18 goal of the Plan; and
19
20 WHEREAS, Subchapter VI of Chapter 91 Wis. Stats. authorizes the establishment of an
21 Agricultural Enterprise Area(AEA) as a mechanism to protect agricultural land and enhance the
22 local agricultural economy; and
23
24 WHEREAS,Wis. Stats. § 91.86(2) and(3), establishes a petition process and submission
25 requirements through which owners of eligible farms may petition the Wisconsin Department of
26 Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP)to establish an AEA; and
27
28 WHEREAS,pursuant to Wis. Stats. § 91.86(2), all political subdivisions in which a proposed
29 AEA is located must jointly file the petition for the AEA with the DATCP; and
30
31 WHEREAS,the Town of Troy has passed a resolution in support of a petition requesting the
32 establishment of an AEA; and
33
34 WHEREAS, St. Croix County has determined,based on petitioner support and meetings
35 where AEAs were discussed that there is public support for an AEA; and
36
37 WHEREAS, agriculture is an important land use in St. Croix County and worthy of
38 preservation and support.

40 THEREFORE, be it resolved, that St. Croix County hereby supports the establishment of
41 the Town of Troy AEA within the Town of Troy, St. Croix County, Wisconsin.
