GENERAL INSTALLATION: Be :hound area is staked out along the design contour. Fxistine
vegetation is mowed and raked off the site. 1'he mound basal area (L s W) is plowed with a moldboard or
chisel plow. PloxwinL may- not proceed if the soil is wet enough at the plow depth to form a '/s inch soil wire
when a sample is rolled between the palnx of the hands. ASTM C-33 quality sand is placed inmtediatch
alter plo6110. Sand is placed e%irli a tracked machine keeping 12 or more inches of sand under the tracks or
is placed overhead by a backhoe. Special care must be used when placing sand of less than one Blot
thickness to minimize compaction of the plowed surlace. After the topsoil cap is placed, the entire mound
is seeded and mulched to promote vegetative growth, limit erosion and protect from freezing. Tl:c
observation pipes are slotted in the lower 0 inches and secured in place with rebar or a closet flange.

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
Inspections of tanks and dispersal cells shall be made by an individual carrying one of the following licenses or
certifications: Master Plumber; Master Plumber Restricted Sewer, POWTS Inspector; POWT S Maintainer, Septage
Servicing Operator. Tank inspections must include a visual Inspection of the tank(s) to identify any missing or broken
hardware, kfenbfy any cracks or leaks, measure the volume of combined sludge and scorn and to check for any back up
or pending of effluent on the ground surface . The dispersal cell(s) shall be visually inspected to check the effluent levels
in the observation pipes and to chock for any pending of effluent on the ground surface. The pending of effluent on the
ground surface may indicate a failing condition and requires the immediate notification of the kcal regulatory authority
When the combined accumulation of sludge and scum in any tank equals one-third (g) or more of the tank volume, the
entire contents of the tank shall be removed by a Septage Servicing operator and disposed of in accordance with ch. NR
113, Wisconsin Administrative Code
The servicing of effluent filters, mectynical or pressurized POWTS components, pretreatfinent components, and any
other maintenance or monitoring at iffervals of 12 months or less shall be performed by a certified POWTS Maintainer.
A service report shall be provided to the local regulatory authority witimn 10 day, of completion of any service event.
START UP AND OPERATION
For new construction, prior to use of the POWTS check treatment tank(s) for the presence of painting products or other
chemicals that may impede the treatment process and/or darnage the dispersal cell(s) If high concentrations are
detected have the contents of the tank(s) removed by a seplage servicing operator prior to its(!

START UP AND OPERATION
For new construction, prior to use of the POVdTS check treatment tank(s) for the presence of paiplicg products or other chemi:als Ihdl
may impede the treatment process and/or damage the dispersal cell(s). If high concentrations are detected have the contents of the
;ark(s) removed by a septage servicing operator prior to use -
System start up shall not occur when soil conditions are frozen al the Infit ratlve. surface.
During power outages pump tanks may 511 above normal highwater levels. When power is restored the excess wastewater will be
discharged to the dispersal cell(s) In one large dose, overlcad,ng the cell(s) and may result in the nackup or surface discharge f of l the
To avoid this situation have the contents of the pump tank removed by a Septage Servicing Operator prior to restoring power effluent pump or contact a Plumber or POWTS
Maintainer to assist in manually operating the pump controls to restore normal levo s
within the pump tank,
Do not drive or park vehicles over tanks and oispersal cells. Do riot drive or park over or otherwise disturb of compact, the area within
15 feet down stop(- of any mound or at-grade soil absorptior area
Reduction or elimination of the following from the wastewater stream may improve the performance and prolong the life of the POW] ;i:
antibiotics; baby wipes; cigarette butts; condoms cotton swabs; degreasers; dental floss; diapers; disinfectants; fat; 'oalion di LS
(Sump pump) water; fruit and vegetable peelings: gaso:ine: grease; herbicides, meat scraps; medications; oil; painting
pesticides; sanitary napkins; tampons; and viater softener bdre.
ABANDONMENT
Vvhen the POVVTS fails artdlor is permanently taker out of service the following steps shall be taken to insure trial the system is properly
and safely abandoned in complianoe with chapter Comm &3.33. Wisconsin Administrative Code:
• Ail piping to tanks and pits shall be disconnected aril the sbardoned pipe openings sealed.
• The contents of all tanks and clts shall be removed and piopedy disposed of by a Septage Serv:c;ng Operator.
• After pumping, all tanks and Os shal' be excavated and rernoveo ui their covers removed and the void space filled with soil,
gravel or another inert solid material.
CONTINGENCY PLAN
11 the POVVTS falls and cannot be repaired the folloOrq measures have been, or must he taker, to provide a rode compli;pnl
ropacement system.
0 A suitable replacement area has been evaluated and may be utilized for the location of a replacement soil aosorption system.
The replacement area should be protected from distlubance and compaction and should not be infringed upon by required
setbacks from existing and proposed structure, lot lines and'erells. Failure to protect the replacement area will result in the need
for a new soil and site evaluation to establish a suitable replacement area. Replacement systems must comply with the ruler in
ef`ect at that time.
❑ A suitable replacement area s nct available doe to setback and/or soil limitations. Barring advances in POWTS technolDgV a
holding tank may be installed as a lest resort to replace the failed POWTS-
]'he site has not been evaluated to identify a suitable repiacemert area. Upon failure of the POWTS a sort and site evacuation
roust be Per`.ormed to locate a suitable rep'acemer.t area. if no replacement area '.s available a holding tank may be installed as
a last reson to replace the failed POWTS.
Mound and at-grade soil absorption systems may be reconstructed in place following removal o` the biomat at the infi!tralive
surface. Recons'ructions of such systems must comply with the rules in effect at that time.
<<WARNING>>
SEPTIC, PUMP AND OTHER TREATMENT TANKS MAY CONTAIN LETHAL GASSES ANDIOR INSUFFICIENT OXYGEN. DO NAT
ENTER A SEPTIC, PUMP OR OTHER TREATMENT TANK UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. DEATH MAY RESULT. RESCUE or A
