Present: Bill Peavey, Linda Luckey, Richard Marzolf, Dan Raebel, Lee Milligan, Pete Kling,
Marie Witzel, and Joan Sprain.
Absent: Gene Ruetz (excused)
The meeting was called to order by Vice Chairman Bill Peavey.
Date of next meeting was set for March 3, 2009.
Luckey moved that the previous meeting's minutes be approved. Marzolf seconded the motio
Motion carried. n.
Raebel moved that the vouchers be approved. Luckey seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Marzolf moved that Department Head Responsibilities be approved as divided on the handout.
Luckey seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Administrative Report
WACEC
There will be a district meeting on April 6 "'. Sprain shared the planning committee is looking
for questions that can be asked of the legislative panel. The state conference is June 15` & 16`"
in La Crosse.
Strategic Planning
Sprain reported that UWEX will be implementing their strategic plan shortly. Dean Rick
Klemme reported on a recent all staff conference call that it has become even more important in
light of funding challenges.
Civil Rights Report
Sprain and staff shared two presentations of demographic data and program outreach to
underserved audiences which were a part of the December Civil Rights Review. The data shows
St. Croix County has experienced rapid growth, a young
commuter population, and a well educated populou who are predominately n tely Cau asian with high
some Asian and African American groups. There is a very small Hispanic /Latino population.
4 -H Agent's Report
Witzel discussed volunteer orientation which is required for all 4 -H volunteer leaders and
interested parents. Nineteen more adults attended this training in January.
New families including members, leaders, and parents attended the New Family Orientation.
This is a new program for St. Croix County that gives the people who are new to extension

Programs, especially 4 -H an opportunity to learn more about the program, ask questions, and
visit the office. From the evaluation, 100% of the respondents rated the workshop very high.
They stated the most helpful part of the program was the question/answer period for adults. The
adults shared the following: "We had a lot of questions!" "Talking with experienced members"
was the most helpful part of the evening.
Family Living Agent's Report
Sprain reported the importance of being able to remain connected via e -mail while recu eratin
from surgery and praised the IT Department for their help. She will now be able to resume g
teaching in the jail and with Drug Court. She has two classes; Strengthening Families 10 -14 and
"Are You Ready" The College Transition, scheduled (total of 9 evenings) for New Richmond
late winter.
Resource A ent's Report
Kling highlighted an upcoming workshop that focuses on growing the local economy
developing a buy local initiative. UWEX in partnership with the Hudson Independent Business
Association (HIBA) will be hosting a workshop on February 26 from 8:00 a.m. -11: 00 a.m. at
the Phipps for small business owners called "Show Me the Green: Profitable Small Business
Practices that Build on the Local Advantage ". A free community presentation for citizens about
"why buying local is important" will be given Wednesday, February 25 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30
p.m. at the Phipps.
