ROLL CALL Joan Chamberlain, HHS, Ed Thurman, Public Health, Steve Kirt, HHS, Supervisor Esther Wentz, Gail Colligan, Youth Service Bureau, Supervisor Roger Rebholz, Dana Krahenbuhl, Hudson Schools, Sheriff Dennis Hilstead, Supervisor Bill Crammer, Officer Mark Richards, Eric Johnson, District Attorney, Chuck Whiting, Administrative Coordinator, Peter Van Dusartz, Hudson Hospital and Joan Sprain, UWEX APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING — March 2, 2009 Minutes and agenda accepted as presented. DATE OF NEXT MEETING: Wednesday, April 29, 2009 3 PM Room 1281 OLD AND NEW BUSINESS 1. Reports a. Parents Who Host i. Joan Chamberlain reported on progress. Passed out news article and sample placemat, window clings will be passed out at local businesses in Somerset, New Richmond & Baldwin - Woodville as well as bag stuffers as grocery stores. Youth will be involved in the distribution. Suggestions were made to improve placemat information. Supervisor Rebholz moved and Supervisor Wentz seconded that this committee supports the effort and the Substance Abuse Committee's name can be used on information distributed. b. DOJ (Department of Justice) Grant Esther said Doug thought grant would be renewed for next year. c. Youth Service Bureau No report d. Drug Court April 8 th Graduation at 9:15 in Courtroom e. Tom Hennes Report- Open Door Rescue Mission will be trying to open an office April 1 and begin delivering programs. £ MADAM No report Items for County Board approval must be submitted to the County Clerk's office by Wednesday morning preceding a County Board meeting. 3/31/2009 7:56 AM a 2. Alcohol and Drug Information Update • Rick reported that he was pleased to see Dana from Hudson Schools since she is closest to the issue. Dana shared that the number 1 issue is alcohol second is marijuana. Hooka ( used with tobacco products) and smokeless products are popular. Meth has dropped off; cocaine and LSD are on the rise. • Programs for Change Pete Van Dursartz, Hudson Hospital & Clinics, Pete handed out new brochure describing the Programs for Change: Chemical Addiction Treatment and Recovery Care • Roger reported on Judge Vlack's efforts to create a Youth Drug Court. We need to watch how it develops. • Steve reported that the Stimulus Package (Office of Justice) has money for Drug Courts. $68 million is available including money for juvenile drug courts. Another grant from that pool is specifically for juvenile. It is a good time to be working on this effort. • Esther shared that NACO has good information regarding meth and drugs. Steve said there is a link on the county web site. • Photo Voice exhibits will be at Public Health and the Government Center and Health fair in New Richmond at WITC March 28 • Bill asked if there other ways to help the schools. Dana said bringing Gail Colligan on is most helpful. • Joan Sprain reported that Strengthening Families 10 -14 is going well in New Richmond. Ten families, 21 kids are attending. Denise Gunderson is helping facilitate. New Richmond schools has been a strong partner. 3.
