It is the intention of the property owners, Kw[ and Elizabeth Christensen, to subdivide this huul and sell parcels. Initially, there are 5 parcels that have been surveyed Additional parcels will follow. The initial determination found the vies to be marginally suitable for mound type septic systems (Sod Absorption System). However, there was not a clear separation distance of inches between the bottom of the A between and evidence ofsemanal saturation his evidenced by redoximignmefeatures) Asa result, this soil tester requested the presence ofthe Wisconsin State Waste Water Specialist, Leroy Jansky, to conduct a sods renew of this site, specifically in the areaofthe proposed SAS's My Jansky had previously visited the site at the request ofa soil tester who had done preliminary Wrongs and field assesvnents on the site The soils verification - sods on -site was conducted on 4 July 2003 GEOLOGICAL HISTORY The sods observed on site strongly suggest that the area has been influenced by glaolarlon Soils appear to be Ices& underlain by glacial till No bedrock was observed at the depth of the breckhoe pits or hand dug pits The subsurface formation in St Croix County consists of the Prime Du Chun Group (dolomite and sandy dolomite) Depth to bedrock ranges from 0- 15 meters (Brown, B.A. (1989d This formation is of Ordovician origin(Paleozoic era 425 mya). Dolomite appears to have been land during the early Ordovician period, while the sandstone was land during the late part of the period (Paull, R.K. and Paull, R.A. (191])) Glaciation of St. Croix County occurred many times during the history of the earth, although the most recent ghaeation, during the Pleistocene coach (approximately I million to 10,000 years before present), is the most apparent Them were several stages of glacial advance, the most recent being the Wisconsin stage This was the result of the advance ofthe SuPwror Lobe (Mart. L (1965). The Physical Geology of Wisconsin University of Wisconsin Press, Madison, Wiscuns rn The glacial till present as parent material in the subsoil of the Christensen site is most likely the result of deposit from the Superior Lobe material Lcess, present as soil ofNe Ap, E, and portions of the Ht horizon, may be the result of the influence of the Eau Galle River or the St Croix W ver LOCAL HYDROLOGY As noted on the accompanying topographic maps, regionally, the land surface has a gentle slope to the west This slope to the west is presumably the influence ofthe Eau Celle River, which lays 0 5 miles west of the westein-most boundary of the property and flows in a southerly direction The property is approximately 20 feet higher m elevation than the Eau Galle River. Although the regional flow is westerly, there are considerable topographic changes in the land surface radon the area of the proposed subdivision. These changes have been noted on Ole accompanying 2 plot plans. Plot plan 1 shows an overall lay -out of the proposed 5lot subdivision An arbitrary benchmark lHM) has been established on the edge of the blacktop on 110'^ Avenue. Thus has ban assignedthe elevation of 100.0' As noted, elevations of the proposed mound sites varyfrom 100 60' (lot I) to 110 16'(tat 5) The topognibm maps consulted for tuts report do not outcome any wetland areas in the vicinity ofihepmposedmound SAS's Nonatunllyor ngaz ofstandrngwaterwereobservedin theareeoftheproposed monk SAS's However,6etopogmphydassuggesttbatawmerway ensts between lots 1 and 2. Although no areas of seasonal saturation were observed on the topographic map for this area, the soil series map did show a wet area and a seasonal creek in the northeast portion of Section 7 (refer to the accompanying photocopy of the soil sines map). SOIL MAPPING OF THE AREA Direct sod mapping of this area by this soil tester indicates that, mannommally, this soil is a Typm Glossaqualf tan agotc alfisob Aqum alfisols have elluvml and dluvml horizons which arc saturated at some time during the year ba evidenced by me redoamorphhe features/ Sad seems maps for this area however, characterize this area as Type Glossoboralf Thaw, a crym alfisol. Specifcally, this is classified as Fraon series soils Information on the soil series for this area was provided by the St Croix County Soil Conservation Service. As noted in the CST Soil and Site Evaluation, clay loam and silty clay loam was encountered in all pits in the vicinity of the proposed SAS's Depli to these layers vaned from 11 to 14 inches inthe pits where the layers could be observed In many pits, standing water prevented the observation of subsoils VARIATIONS IN SOIL CONDITIONS AND SURFACE WATER FLOW Regional surface water Row (and presumably subsurface flow) is west towards the Pau Gale River. Topographic changes in the and in the vicinity of the proposed subdivision indicate that flow can be in all directions from the proposed mound sites. A noticeable water way exists between tors I and 2 as noted on the plot plans for the arcs. General surface water Row in the area may he primarily vertical for the first 8 inches as a result of the relatively permeable upper honwns Permeability is moderately slow in the subsoil and is most likely patching above the dense silty clay loam subsoil. Permeability in the upper horizons may also be the result of extensive cultivation. thus loosening the soil and increasing in permeability In the upper horizons. Alm present in the Ap honzon, and slightly trim the subwd, were worm channels, suggesting that the upper horizon was aerated enough in support aerobic organisms. Rona and root channels were also present in the 0 to 8" range of the wit profile. Soil colors as noted by this wit tester were IM 3R from 0-8". This grayish brown color is darker than the gleyed colors one would associate with a more aquic condition This suggests flat in the upper soil profile at least, numbing conditions do not take place for any considerable period of nine. No puddled or massive wds were Observed in the area of the proposed SAS's to a depth Of 8 inches. Close inspection of the Ap horizon did not indicate the presence of redoxti eMine features. This suggests that although there is not an A+4 situation. Were is adequate depth in the A banana (approximately 7Inches) to maintain a suitable chance hetwan the bomm of the SAS and the limiting factor and thus to allow for the placement of a mound SAS. The gradual appearance of redox features In We wit profile is also significant with respect to the actual depth ofseasonal saturation Although low chroma and high chrome fcarures were observed in some areas of the wit immediately below the A horizon, these colors were not prominent until the pit honemic thus suggesting that significant seasonal SiMmUon did not Occur in the A hovnn. In pits where standing water was observed, no water stood wmhm 8 inches of We surface. This is sigaifncam In light of the fact that for 2 days prior m the observation of the pits on lots 3, 4, 5 (second visit to the site), there was significant nornWll in St Cron County. This wit tester however, does not have information on the exact amount of amfall during this period PROPOSALS This wit tern fcels that mound systems on these sites would adequately provide wastewater tmatment and effaces dispersal as long as the follows deign conditions are implemented: 1 The wnsructimn of We soil ebwrytion systems must he ion the areas desigrated on the plot Plans 2 Ar lower jn Ne landscape must not be used for sml absorption systems. 3 The SAS'smanhedaigndverylongandn w%iNalinearloadingmteequalorless than 4 0 gpolH. This may limit the number of bedrooms Nm a can be placed on the sne 4 At least 2 50 feet ol'ASTM 33 sand be used under the laterals 5 Maximum hole spacing in laterals should be 30 inches. 6 Slopes around the mound should be 1:4 rather than the traditional 1:3 to increase the toe absorption area V The area upslope of the proposed SAS's should he contoured to prevent water from Ouwing into the mound areas In oNer words, the area wound the upslope should be higher than surrounding areas to encourage water movement away from the ProPesed mound.
