Inspections of tanks and dispersal cells snall be Trade by ar irdividual denying one of the following 1; onsos or certifications: Raster
i Iumbor, Master Plumber Restricted Sewer; PO4V75 'rspece, POW-S K,13 . mai, Seolege Servicing Operator. Tank inspectors must
nGude a visual inspection of the :ark(s) to ioentfy any missing or broken hardware, ideo'y any cracks or leaks, measure the volume of
combined sludge and scum and to check for any back up or pending of effluent on tie ground surface. The dispersal cell(s) shall be
:isualiy inspected to check the effluent eveis in the observation capes and to chuck for any pending of effluent on the ground surface.
The pending of effluent o.n the ground surface may indicate a failing cundition and requires the immediate nou ication of the local
regulatory authority.
'When the combined accumulation of sludge and Scum in any tank equals ono-third or more of the lark volume, the entire contents of
the tank shall be removed by a Sep;age Servicing Operator and disposed of in accordance with chapter NR 113. W.sconslr

START UP AND OPERATION
For new construction, prior to use of the. POiArS chec''v lieaLnenl tank(s; for the preserce of painting products or oUlef chemicals lhz,l
may impede lire treatment process andlor damage the dispersal cell(s). If high concentrations are detected have the contents of the
tank(s) removed by a septage servicing operator prior to use.
System start up shall not occur when soil conditions are frozen at the infiltrative surface.
Durng power outages pump tanks may 911 above normal highwater levels. When power is restored the excess wastewater will be
discharged In the lispersal cell(s) in one larce dose, overlcad.ng the cell(s) and may result in the backup or surface discharge of effluent.
To event this situation have the contents of the pump tank removed by a Septage Servicing Operator prior to rostodng power to the
effluent pump or contact a Plumber or POWTS Maintainer to assist ir. manually operating the pump controls to restore normal level
within the pump tank.
Do rot drive or park vehicles over tanks and dispersal cells. Oo not drive or park over, or otherwise disturb or compact. the area within
55 feet down slope of any mound or al-glade soil absorption area.
Reduction or elimination of the following from the wastewater stream may improve the performance and prolong the Ilia of the POW1 i
antibiotics; body wipes; cigarette butts; condoms- cotton swats; degreasers; dental floss; diapers; disinfectants; fat; fcundaf:on drain

pesticides: sern.tary napkins; tan-.pors: and water suftener brine.
ABANDONMENT
When the POVv7S fails andlor is permanen!ry taken out of service the following steps shall be taken !o insure that the system is propefly
and safely abandoned in compliance with chapter Comm 83.33. Wisconsin Administrative Code:
• All piping to tanks and pits s'rall be disconnected and the abandoned pipe openings seated.
• The contents of all tanks and nits shall ho removed and properly t:sposed of by a Septage Servic'ng Operator.
• Auer pumping, at tanKS and pits shad be excavate(j and retrieved or their covers removed and the void space ii with :i:, 1.
gravel or another inert solid material.
CONTINGENCY PLAN
!f the POVdl8 fails and cannot be tepaired the foilewirg meas3res have been, or must be taken, to provide a code comphlint
replacement system.
❑ A suitable replacement area has been evaluated and may oe ublized for the location of a replacement soil absorptor system.
The replacement a•ea should be protected from disturbance and compaction and should not ue infringed upon by required
setbacks from exis!mg and proposed structure, lot lines and wells. Failure to protect the replacement area will iesu;t in the ne!ud
for a new soil and site evaluation to establish a suitable replacement area. Replacement systems must comely with the rules in
effect at that time
❑ A suitable replacement area is not available due to setback andlor soil limitations. Sci advances in POWTS technology a
hold-rig lank may be installed as a last resort to rep:ace the failed POVVTS.
The site has not bear, evaluated to identify a suitable replacement area. Upon failure of the POWf S a soi' and site evaluation
must be perforated to Poore a sinners replacemert area. if no replacement area is available a holding tank may be installed as
last resort to replace the !ailed POWTS.
Mourd a10 at-Vrade soil absorption systems may be reconstructed in place foilowing removal of the blamer at the inti'tra.ive
s . Reconstructions of such systems must comply with lire rules in effect at that time.-
