Present: LO1S Burrl, Leon Berenshcot, Ranald Raymond, Art Jensen, Chris Bethke, Dave Fodroczi,
and Kim Beaman
The meeting ,was called to order by Chair Chris Bethke at 12:45 m.

Date of next meeting was set for July 7, 1998 at 12:30 p.m.
Jensen moved that the agenda be adopted as presented. Raymond seconded the motion. Motion
carried.
Berenschot moved that the previous meeting's minutes be approved. Raymond seconded the moron.

Administrative Report
St. Croix County Budget: Beaman reviewed the budget and highlighted the ercenta es s eat to
P g P date. Most line items are on track ranging from 35 % to 43 % spent. The line item for supplies is
higher X68 due to unplanned purchases from the move into the new facility. Travel for Lestrud is
also higher X77 because she is 314 time and doesn't work in June, August or December.. The 4-H
Expense Account is low X8.6 because the bulk of programming which incurs eater ex eases
P happens in the late spring through early fall. ~~x

State wACEC Conference: Extension Committee members Bethke, Berenschot and Burri, along
with Beaman, will attend the conference on tb~ behal_f of St. Croix Co~antV. _
UwE~ District Resource Mana ement Plan: Beaman distributed a handout enclosed} which
identified potential strategies for reducing UWEX's dependence on base funds. Base funds are the
Smith Lever Funds from the Federal budget which primarily fund salaries. This discussion has
occurred at UwF,~ District Faculty meetings and is now being discussed with Extension Committees
for reaction.
wl State Statute 59.56: UWE~ Administration is seeking input from Extension Committees about
whether this state statute should be updated to reflect current language and working relationships
with counties and other agencies.
District S V~ACEC Secreta :Moved by Jensen, seconded by Bethke to nominate Berenschot as the
District 8 wACEC Secretary. Motion passed.

4-H Youth Develo meat Re ort
4-H Pro'ect Enrollment Review: Reiman reviewed the t op 10 4-H projects which have the highest
member enrollment. Foods and Nutrition has the largest enrollment with 201 ro'ect mem f p ~ bers,
ollawed by ArtslCrafts X161}, Photography X143}, Dairy X137 , Woodwork~n 133 } g ~ Cloverbuds
X101}, Clothing X99}, DrawinglPainting X98}, Beef X87} and Horse 83 . Coun wide ' ~ } ty project
committees will be recruited for photography and woodworkin this fall to rovide addati ' g p oral skill
trainYng m these areas.
Volunteer Involvement in Summer Pro rams: Count 4-H Pro'ect Committees a ' Y ~ n Dog, Rabbit,
Poultry, Clothing, Horse, and Dairy will offer 15 educational ro rams for 4-H member ' . P g s ~n June.
These committees plan age appropriate activates which are hands on learnan ex eraence - g p sfor4H
members .

Fodroczi reviewed a list of May vouchers totaling $6,524.39.. Berenschot moved that the vouch ers
be approved as presented. Raymond seconded the motion. Motion carried.
TirelA Hance Roundu :Fodroczi reviewed a lisp of sites to be used far the Tire and A ' . ppliance
Roundups. TLes will be collected at ten sites throughout the caun on June 13th and 20th. . tY
Appliances will be collected at the Baldwin, Hudson and New Richmond sites on June 13. A11
arrangements are complete.
Hazardous Waste Progr_am~ Fodroczi reported an the hazardous collection for Saturda Ma . y, y 30th
in New Richmond and Hudson. There were a total of 251 partici ants at the two sites. Prelimina . P rY
collection numbers included 8,000 to 9,OOq pounds of h~~ardous waste, 700 fluorescent tubes and
14 compute monitors. The participants included 16 farms and 12 small businesses. Arran ements g
for the Hudson site need to be re-evaluated to accommodate inclement weather.

distributed to all county residents the week of May 1Sth.
