Phil Hammer was excused. Also present were Sandy Gehrmann, Cindy Icard, Jonna Fedie, Barb Blaisdell, Shirley Marlette, Janice Thompson, Ehna Liberty, Donna Zacharias, Joanne Matysik, Gladys Ellefson, Bonnie Brande, and Peggy Patterson. ADOPTION OF AGENDA: A motion was made by John Mortensen and seconded by Andy Germain to adopt the agenda; motion carried. DATE OF NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be Thursday, April 16, 1998 at 9:00 a.m. ACTION ON PREVIOUS MINUTES: A motion was made by Lee Kellaher and seconded by John Mortensen to approve the March minutes as printed; motion carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Long Term Care Redesign: Updates were presented. AAA , Restructure: The Western Wisconsin Area Agency on Aging will be dissolved by July 1, 1998. The Aging Directors voted that any fund balance would be divided between the counties. New Business: Special I & A Projects: An Information and Assistance grant was completed by Sandy. The grant would assist with the upgrade of information and assistance in the amount of $4,250.00. Internet is now mandated and is included in the grant. A motion was made by Larry Weisenburger and seconded by John Mortensen to accept the grant as presented; motion carried. Staff Reports: This will be Lee Kellaher's last meeting on the Council. The Council and staff thanked him for the valued work he has done for us. SCAN came today. This will be the last month that SCAN will be done by Best Press. Art Groth, who has purchased the Central St. Croix News in Hammond, will take over the publishing starting with the April issue. ' X 990 more meals have been served than last year at this time. A survey was done for the DayAway Clubs. The surveys were very positive. A motion was made by Larry Weisenburger and seconded by Lee Kellaher to approve $69.00 motel cost for Network training for Sue Kramer and the State Alzheimer's meeting for Mary Klomps; motion carried. The Hudson United Way amounts received are as follows: DayAway - $1,260; Faith In Action - $1,000; Aging & Handicapped Transportation - 17,020 (needs to be used in Hudson). The Senior Options Expo will be May 15'. There are 200 vendors, entertainment, and places to eat. The Senior Celebration Day has been scheduled for May 14' at the Faith Community Church in Hudson. Some of the presenters that are scheduled are Carl Nordin (World War II Survival Tale from his book, We Were Next to Nothing); musical entertainment by Warren Petryk of the Memories; Peggy Grubbs of Maggie's Antiques will evaluate small antiques/collectibles; Rob Kuchta will do a slide show and personification of old-time logging; and Shelly Evenson from the YMCA will do a presentation called "Pep Up Your Life". The outstanding senior award will be presented before lunch. Cost will be $7.50 (includes lunch, materials, and morning refreshments). We received 30 surveys back from County employees on "You and Your Aging Parent". A handout was distributed about helping protect nursing home residents. USDA meal reimbursement is now .5506 per meal. The Brookdale Foundation statistics were read. The National AARP Convention will be held in June in Minneapolis. The Volunteer Recognition will be April 2? at Garfields Valley House. Barb is chairing the Human Service Network sub- committee to coordinate information and assistance resources in the County. Sue and Barb will be on another sub -committee that will work on emergency food and housing issues. Shirley Marlette commended Barb for her help on the United Way Grants. An update was given on the vans. Glen Reynolds, Fiscal Manager from the Area Agency on Aging came on Monday to work with Barb. He agreed that ECHO is not user friendly, but has great management potential -especially if the budget information is entered. The card parry went well yesterday. Next week it will be held in Hudson. Sam's Club membership has worked out well. SITEXENTER REPORTS: DEER PARK: Gwen Lee is happy to be cooking again at the Nutrition Site. Participation has increased. GLENWOOD CITY: Blood pressure is given at the site. The White Elephant Sale was a success. Glenhaven invited participants to attend a Soup and Sandwich Luncheon. BINGO is going well. Music will be played on March 31s`. BALDWIN: People have started playing cards in the afternoon. Interest is up in Footcare Clinics. The Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups will have a meeting at the Baldwin Senior Center on April 13'. Next Thursday, participants are going to the Hudson Nutrition Site. HUDSON: The Center Board is still working on the brochures. The March and April Birthday Parties were celebrated on March 21'. Participants enjoy playing BINGO and cards. A 55 Alive driving class is scheduled for April 13' and 14'. NEW RICHMOND: Had a Valentine Party. AARP meetings are going well. The Center Board is working on its next fundraising project. A shopping trip to Stillwater has been scheduled for April3`d RIVER FALLS: The Center purchased a treadmill. A 55 Alive class has been scheduled for May 141 and 151. A pancake breakfast will be April 5`' from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 P.M. SOMERSET: The Card Tournament was held in Somerset yesterday. BINGO is played every day. Today is Andy Germain's Birthday. WOODVILLE: Cards and BINGO are played. Had entertainment at the St. Pats and Birthday Parties. A motion was made by Andy Germain and seconded by Ann Healy to adjourn the meeting at 11:00 a.m.; motion carried.
