Moe, Rhoda Wood, and Mary Lou Smith. Larry Weisenburger and Lois Burri were excused. Also present were Sandy Gehrmann, Cindy Icard, Jonna Fedie, Barb Blaisdell, Shirley Marlette, Elma Liberty, Donna Zacharias, Gladys Ellefson, Janice Thompson, Peggy Patterson, and Bonnie Brande. ADOPTION OF AGENDA: A motion was made by John Mortensen and seconded by Andy Germain to adopt the agenda; motion carried. DATE OF NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be Thursday, August 20, 1998 at 9:00 a.m. ACTION ON PREVIOUS MINUTES: A motion was made by Phil Hammer and seconded by Andy Germain to approve the June minutes as printed; motion carried. UNFIMSHED BUSINESS: Long Term Care Redesign: No new reports at this time. Older Americans Act Reauthorization: There is a bill in progress to reauthorize through 2001. New Business: "Flowers For Charlie"- Video: Video was shown on what a difference one person can make. Discussion followed. 1998 - 1999 County Plan: The Council may amend the plan from last year. The Site Supervisors are to ask the participants if they would like the same services that they are getting now. We will discuss this at the August meeting. Sandy reminded the Site Supervisors that they get paid to do nutrition site work not Center Board activities. Staff Reports: The Leadership Training is scheduled for August 26' from 1:30 - 4:30 at the Government Center. Correspondence was read. The County Fair Demonstration and Speech schedule was discussed for the senior building. The Fair Board would like to know if there are any exhibits that should be eliminated or added for judging. The County audit is being conducted at the present time. Echo is not working. The system is not working as it should. Pam Benson will be representing the Department again this year at Farm City Days. It will be held at Bob and Nancy Johnson's on August 8' from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. The Elder Right's Conference is scheduled for Tuesday, August 25 in Eau Claire. Attorney General Doyle will speak. Please let the office know if there is interest to attend. An article called "Elderly risk of malnutrition alarming" was distributed. The importance of the nutrition assessment on the back of intake form was discussed. There will be blood sugar screenings for diabetes_ at the nutrition sites in November. The Master Gardeners and the University of Wisconsin - Extension have initiated a Share the Bounty Program. Drop off points will be at the Hudson Senior Center and the United Methodist Church in Hudson. A motion was made by Andy Germain and seconded by John Mortensen to approve the Disability Coalition request to use the New Richmond van on August 28, 29, and, 30 for a trip to Chetek. Aging and Handicapped Transportation, Inc. purchased a 1997 Voyager and a 1993 Pontiac. A 1995 Olds automobile was purchased for the Hudson route with funds from United Way, Gilbert Motors, and a private foundation. One of the old vehicles will be put out on bids in September. SITEXENTER REPORTS: DEER PARK: Martha Mabis did a presentation on pasta salads. GLENWOOD CITY: Salad Luncheon is being planned for August 7'. Happy Grannies will perform on Monday. BALDWIN: Participants will go on a van trip to Shell Lake on Friday. A Dutch Days Breakfast is being planned at the Center. HLTDSON: Had a Birthday Party. Martha Mabis did a presentation. Chair Aerobics is going well. NEW RICHMOND: The Birthday Party will be August 11. The garage sale will be on August 2 1 " at the Center. On Friday, June 26' the van trip to Cedar Lake for a pontoon ride was enjoyed by all that attended. The brochures are at the printers. RIVER FALLS: Participants are playing cards. A 55 Alive class has been scheduled for August 15'. SOMERSET: Martha Mabis did a presentation. A motion was made by Andy Germain and seconded by Rhoda Wood to approve a Somerset van trip to the Minnesota State Fair; motion carried. A Wig Day will be held on July 30'. WOODVILLE: Cards and BINGO are played. Plans are being made for the County Fair. The new van was delivered. A motion was made by Andy Germain and seconded by John Mortensen to adjourn the meeting at 11:50 a.m.; motion carried.
