Also present were Sandy Gehrmann, Cindy Icard, Jonna Fedie, Barb Blaisdell, Shirley Marlette, Elma Liberty, Donna Zacharias, Gladys Ellefson, Janice Thompson, Peggy Patterson, Joanne Matysik, Ethel Peterson, and Lorraine Jacobs. ADOPTION OF AGENDA: A motion was made by Larry Weisenburger and seconded by John Mortensen to adopt the agenda; motion carried. DATE OF NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be Thursday, September 17, 1998 at 9 : 00 a.m. ACTION ON PREVIOUS MINUTES: A motion was made by Andy Germain and seconded by Rhoda Wood to approve the July minutes as printed; motion carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Long Term Care Redesign: The phase in schedule was sent out. Implementation will be July 1, 2002. 1999 County Plan/Budget: The 1999 Budget request was distributed. Each program was individually discussed. There is a shortfall in raw and catered food costs of $3,049. Discussion followed. Barb distributed and presented the 85.21 Transportation Grant. The projected amount of the grant is $53,796 and with the 20 % County required match, the total is 64,555 plus donations/fees. A motion was made by John Mortensen and seconded by Andy Germain to approve the 1999 85.21 Transportation Grant as presented by Barb; motion carried. A motion was made by Larry Weisenburger and seconded by Andy Germain to approve the entire 1999 St. Croix County Department on Aging budget as presented by Sandy with the. stipulation that the County add an additional $3,049 to the Department on Aging budget to cover the shortfall; motion carried. County Fair Report: The Maintenance _Department will no longer help transport items to the fair. The Operations Committee will work on this issue for next year. The fundraising efforts are as follows: Popcorn and juice sales, 299.02; Faith In Action, 375.92; and DayAway, 36.55 for a total of 711.49. The demonstrations were enjoyed by all. Discussion followed. New Business: Committee Appointments: Chairman Giese appointed the following to Sub -Committees: Personnel: Andy Germain, Herb Giese, and Roberta. Moe; Operations: Lois Burri, Ann Healy, John Mortensen, Jean Schroeder, and Mary Lou Smith; Transportation: Phil Hammer, Larry Weisenburger, and Rhoda Wood. The Sub - Committees will meet at 8:30 a.m. before the October meeting. Elder Abuse Annual Report: Sandy discussed the latest statistics. Fundraising Suggestions: A future fundraiser will be called 50 + Fest. The Operations Committee will work on this event. In November, we may have a dance at Garfields. 10 % of the tab will be donated towards Department on Aging Programs. Staff Reports: Leadership Training will be August 26' from 1:30 - 4:30 at the Government Center. The Elder Right's Conference, co -sponsored by the Department on Aging, is scheduled for Tuesday, August 25th in Eau Claire. Attorney General Doyle will speak. Thirteen will be attending from St. Croix County. The Department received a transportation request from someone on oxygen. The policy in the past has been not to transport due to liability and training. Barb will discuss this issue with Corporation Council. The Transportation Committee will discuss the transportation of people on oxygen and also the use of Department on Aging vehicles being used by nursing homes before the September meeting at 8:30 a.m. Both issues will be put on the September Council on Aging agenda. On October 1st, the Hudson Site will no longer be able to have a charge account at SSG for Gas. SSG is going to Conoco and they sent information on a charge card. The Council on Aging was in favor of getting a charge card. Transportation Committee will work out details. The Faith In Action Auction/DayAway Meatball Dinner will be held on September 11' at the Baldwin Senior Center. A011 Centers are asked to bring people in the vans and two pans of bars. The Bioethics Conference, co -sponsored by the Department on Aging, will be held at the Faith Community Church on Friday, October 2' from 8:00 a.m. Noon. All site personnel are expected to attend. There will be a dance at the Pierce County Fair Building on October 8' from 1: 30 p.m. - 5 : 00 p.m. Two computers failed the Y2K test in the office. A motion was made by Andy Germain and seconded by Jean Schroeder to purchase two new Dell Computers, at $1, 837.00 each, to update the department; motion carried. A motion was made by Andy Germain and seconded by Roberta Moe to appropriate an additional $150.00 to the Extension Nutrition Program for Martha Mabis's presentations at the nutrition sites; motion carried. SITEXENTER REPORTS: GLENWOOD CITY: Over 250 people ate at the Salad Luncheon held on August 7'. Participants enjoyed the Happy Grannies performance. BINGO is going well. A van trip is scheduled on September 25' to the Glenwood City Golf Course to have lunch. BALDWIN: Participants went on a van trip to Shell Lake. The Dutch Days Breakfast fundraiser made $697.00. The Center had a Hawaiian Party and voted to purchase a computer. HUDSON: Had a Birthday Party and the Happy Grannies performed. Martha Mabis did a presentation. The Center made $1, 000 at the Pepper Fest Booth. Chair Aerobics is going well. NEW RICHMOND: The garage sale will be on August 2 1 " at the Center. Participants enjoyed the Salad Luncheon at Glenwood City. The Center is selling raffle tickets for a painting.
