November 19,1998

CALL TO ORDER: Chairman, Herb Giese, called the
meeting to order at 9:05 a.m.
ROLL CALL: Members present were Herb Giese,
Andy Germain, Phil Hammer, Lois Burri, Mary Lou
Smith, John Mortensen, and Ann Healy. Rhoda Wood,
Rich Peterson, Larry Weisenburger, and Roberta Moe
were excused. Also present were Sandy Gehrmann,
Jonna Fedie, Cindy Icard, Barb Blaisdell, Elma Liberty,
Gladys Ellefson, Bonnie Brande, Ethel Peterson, Donna
Zacharias, and Peggy Patterson.
ADOPTION OF AGENDA: A motion was made by
John Mortensen and seconded by Andy Germain to adopt
the agenda; motion carried.
DATE OF NEXT MEETINGS: The next two meetings
will be Thursday, December 17, 1998 and January 28,
1999 at 8:30 a.m.
ACTION ON PREVIOUS MINUTES: A motion was
made by Andy Germain and seconded by John Mortensen
to approve the October minutes as printed; motion carried.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Long Term Care Redesign: -Sandy a gave report on the
Ad Hoc committee of Milwaukee Physicians of on Long
Term Care Redesign.
OAA Reauthorization: Congress adjourned and did not
reauthorize the Older American's Act. We will again run
on a continuing resolution. No increase in Federal
funding in the last five years.
50 (+ or -)Fest: John Mortensen and Lois Burri gave a
report on locations. The New Richmond Armory may not
be big enough to hold event. The New Richmond Hockey
Arena would charge $350.00 and day and has 17,000 sq.
feet. We could do our own concessions or use theirs.
The Somerset Hockey Arena has 20,000 sq. feet and has
concession stand. Discussion on name of event. Sandy
will develop a letter to go out to the businesses and it will
be discussed at the December Council meeting
NEW BUSINESS:
Senior Celebration 1999: The 1999 Senior Celebration is
scheduled for May 13' at the Faith Community Church.
The cost and presenters were discussed.
Alzheimer's Month -Review of Dementia: November is
Alzheimer's month. Information on dementia was
distributed and discussed.
New Caregiver Law: A new Caregiver Law went into
effect on October 1, 1998. Criminal background checks
will be done before anyone is hired for inhome service or
volunteers for people in their homes.
Staff Reports:
United Way will provide fruit baskets for homebound
participants after the first of the year.
Each County in Western Wisconsin will receive
$6, 896.00 for the Home -Delivered Meal Program. These
funds are from the disbandment of the Western Wisconsin
Area Agency on Aging. A motion was made by Andy
Germain and seconded by John Mortensen for St. Croix
County to receive funding in 1999; motion carried.
A meeting is scheduled for the evening of December 3rd
at the Extension Building in Baldwin, to discuss increasing
number of days to have the County Fair open.
A bus trip has been scheduled for Friday, April 23' to the
Titanic Artifact Exhibition. Cost is $19.00 per person
and that includes price of tour and bus. Information will
go out to the Nutrition Sites.
St. Croix County demographics discussed.
Site representatives are to take Heater Meals back to the
Nutrition Sites for the homebound participants to use of
emergency meals.
Dining Site closings due to bad weather were discussed.
The Spring Card Tournament schedule is as follows:

Somerset, March 31
Baldwin, April 7
New Richmond, April 14
Glenwood City, April 21
Woodville, April 28
Deer Park, May 5
Information will be sent out to the Senior Centers.
SITEXENTER REPORTS:
DEER PARK: There was an evening meal on Veterans
Day.
GLENWOOD CITY: No representative present.
BALDWIN: The Center purchased a computer. A
Veterans Day Program and Thanksgiving Day Party are
being planned at the Center.
HUDSON: Pooh Corner kids came to perform at the
Halloween Party. A good time was had by all that
attended a Mystery Trip. Blood sugar screening is
scheduled for tomorrow. A presentation was done on the
Civil War.
NEW RICHMOND: Martha Mabis did a presentation.
The Happy Grannies performed yesterday at the Center.
Christmas party is being planned. Blood sugar screening
will be next Wednesday. Participants enjoyed a trip to
Menomonie and a Stillwater trip is scheduled for
tomorrow.
RIVER FALLS: No representative present.
SOMERSET: The Halloween Party was October 29'.
Students from St. Anne's did a performance. Martha did
a presentation. Blood sugar screening is today.
WOODVILLE: Bingo and cards are going well.
Martha was there yesterday. The Center purchased a new
coffeepot and cart. A Thanksgiving Party is being
planned.
A motion was made by Phil Hammer and seconded by
John Mortensen to approve all projected van trips out of
County; motion carried.
A motion was made by Ann Healy and seconded by John
Mortensen to adjourn the meeting at 12:08 a.m.; motion
carried.
