Lou Smith, John Mortensen, Ann Healy, Rhoda Wood, Rich Peterson, Larry Weisenburger, and Roberta Moe. Phil Hammer was excused. Also present were Sandy Gehrmann, Jonna Fedie, Cindy Icard, Barb Blaisdell, Elma Liberty, Gladys Ellefson, Bonnie Brande, Ethel Peterson, Donna Zacharias, Janice Thompson, Dianne Rhine, Lorraine Jacobs, and Shirley Marlette. ADOPTION- OF AGENDA: A motion was made by John Mortensen and seconded by Rich Peterson to adopt the agenda; motion carried. DATE OF NEXT MEETINGS: The next two meetings will be Thursday, January 28' and March 18'h at 8:30 a.m. ACTION ON PREVIOUS MINUTES: A motion was made by Andy Germain and seconded by John Mortensen to approve the November minutes as printed; motion carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Family Care: DD has been discontinued from Family Care proposal. Elder Abuse Direct Service Grant: Applied for an Elder Abuse Direct Service Grant in the amount of $9,221.00. This could be used for scholarships for DayAway, background checks on volunteers, transportation, outreach visits in the homes, and _caregiver support groups. Senior FEST: There was much discussion on a name for event. The Council voted to go with Senior Resource Festival. A letter was drafted and read by Sandy to go out to businesses. NEW BUSINESS: AgeAdvantage Legislative Update: Diane Rhein from Area Agency gave a report. There is a rally scheduled in Madison on May 19, 1999, from 12:00-1:00, on Family Care. The Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups is planning the rally. More funding is needed for Transportation, Nutrition, Benefit Specialist, and COP programs. Discussion again on the importance of getting the Older Americans Act passed. Dial 211: We need to keep 211 phone digits open. This would be a special system, similar to 911, only for Information and Referral use. Titanic The Exhibition: A bus trip has been scheduled for April 23rd at 1:30 to go the Titanic Exhibit. Cost will be $19.95 for bus and ticket for the exhibit. Staff Reports: The first hard copy of the St. Croix County Department on Aging Directory was passed around. Sandy asked for comments to be attached before the final draft is done. Renea Nogal did a fantastic job on the directory. Each of the sites will get one copy. We have the capability of sending the directory out on diskettes and possibly putting it on the internet on a web site. How to Kill a Mocking Bird will be at the Great American History Theater in St. Paul in January and February. The site supervisors are to check to see about interest at the sites. A motion was made by Rich Peterson and seconded by Andy Germain to approve a leave of absence for Robert Paul from the end of December until March; motion carried. Sandy read a letter from Green Thumb. They are requesting ' $250.00 for each Green Thumb worker position. This would total $1,000. Discussion followed. This was not included in the 1999 Budget and would need to come out of the Nutrition Trust Account. The Council decided to deny request. County employees are not allowed to accept gifts unless they are consumable and of no lasting value. There is a volunteer training scheduled for Road to Recovery volunteers on Saturday, January 23rd from 9:30- 12:00. Barb Blaisdell and Larry Weisenburger attended a training with John Coughlin for United Way Grants. Barb read the Mission Statement for the Food and Shelter Emergency Group she has been working with. SITEXENTER REPORTS: DEER PARK: Janice cooked for three weeks while Gwen was off work. Martha Mabis did a presentation and there was a Footcare Clinic last week. The Christmas Party is scheduled for next week. GLENWOOD CITY: Participants played BINGO the day of the Christmas Party and will go to look at Christmas lights tonight. A New Years Eve party is being planned. Martha Mabis is scheduled to do a presentation. A Footcare Clinic will be held the first week of January. BALDWIN: Had a Footcare Clinic and doll show. Participants are exercising and playing cards once a month. Going to New Richmond and Baldwin to see Christmas lights. HUDSON: Had a December Birthday and Christmas Parry. Went to a play in River Falls. Sue Kramer will do a presentation on benefit issues on January 11t' at 1:00. NEW RICHMOND: Participants enjoyed the Stillwater shopping trip. The evening meal was a success. The van will be used for a light trip tonight. RIVER FALLS: The Master Gardeners Program was a success. Footcare Clinics are going well. Had Christmas Parry at the WestWind. SOMERSET: The Christmas Parry is today. In the process of doing a raffle. Cub Foods donated $50.00 for fruit baskets for participants. WOODVILLE: Bingo and cards are going well. A van trip to look at lights is being planned. A motion was made by Larry Weisenburger seconded by Rhoda Wood to approve all projected van trips; motion carried. A motion was made by Larry Weisenburger and seconded by Rich Peterson to adjourn the meeting at 11:15 a.m.; motion carried.
