Jean Schroeder, Phil Hammer, John Mortensen, and Roberta Moe were excused. Also present were Rich Peterson, Sandy Gehrmann, Cindy Icard, Barb Blaisdell, Shirley Marlette, Janice Thompson, Elma Liberty, and Peggy Patterson. ADOPTION OF AGENDA: A motion was made by Larry Weisenburger and seconded by Andy Germain to adopt the agenda; motion carried. DATE OF NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be Tuesday, February 17, 1998 at 9:00 a.m. ACTION ON PREVIOUS MINUTES: A motion was made by Larry Weisenburger and seconded by Andy Germain to approve the December minutes as printed; motion carried. Introductions were made. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Long Term Care Redesign: In the State of the State Address, the Governor gave Long Term Care Redesign the name of "Family Care" . NEW BUSINESS: AAA Restructure: The Western Wisconsin Area Agency on Aging will be dissolved in the year. St. Croix County will need to report to another Area Agency on Aging either Northern of Rhinelander or Age Advantage of Madison. The St. Croix County Department on Aging will receive approximately $3,500 and to be used for the Information and Assistance Program. Spring Special Events: The Volunteer Recognition will be Tuesday, April 21St. Bids will be solicited. Senior Citizens Day is scheduled for Thursday, May 14t'° at W.I.T.C. Outstanding Senior Volunteer Award was discussed. This will be a new Older American's Month activity. On May 15" and May 16' the Senior Options Expo will be held in St. Paul. If there is enough interest, a bus and will be leased. Riders will be charged for the bus. The Center Spring Card Tournament was discussed. The fire code capacity at each senior center will be discussed at the next Council meeting. The schedule is as follows: March 18" . Somerset Senior Center March 25': Hudson Senior Center April 1 St: Deer Park Senior Center April8th: Glenwood City Senior Center April 15': Baldwin Senior Center April 22': New Richmond Senior Center April 29th: Woodville Senior Center May 6': River Falls Senior Center The County Fair Board would like more activities going on in our building. Suggestion was to do a Senior Board activity of an "Old Photo Display". The County Board written distributed and discussed. The Board went well. Annual Report was report to the County The St. Croix County Department on Aging brochure was discussed. Staff Reports: The Senior Statesmanship Program will be March 23' - March 26' in Madison. Anyone interested in attending should call Sandy. Intake forms need to be filled out again by all participants because of the new year. They need to fill out the front and back of the form. The American Parkinson's Disease Association Newsletter stated that there are "free services" through the Federal Older Americans Act. Sandy reminded the group that we would not turn anyone away if they can not afford to pay but that there is no such thing as a free service. Those who can afford to pay are expected to do so. Sandy attended a FEMA meeting. The St. Croix County FEMA allotment is $6, 674. The Department on Aging will receive $1, 574 of that for the Liquid Supplement program and emergency meals for the homebound. The 1997 Nutrition Site Statistics sheet was distributed and discussed. United Way Grant was discussed. SITE/CENTER REPORTS: DEER PARK: Gwen Lee is cooking again at the Nutrition Site. There are six new participants. Having card parties GLENWOOD CITY: Martha Mabis did a presentation. Some nursing home residents come once a month. BALDWIN: Bob Margotto is the new Center Board President. Participants are playing cards. NEW RICHMOND: A Valentine Party is being planned. Martha Mabis is scheduled to -do a presentation. Tax Aide is being done at the center. Working on the United Way Grant. River Falls: BINGO and Bridge are played every week. The participation has been good at the site. Tax Aide is going well. SOMERSET: The participants received Christmas fruit from Cub. The Coffee Klatch is going well. Discussion of brakes in van. A motion was made by Andy Germain and seconded by Mary Lou Smith to adjourn meeting at 10:50 a.m.; motion carried.
