HomeMy WebLinkAboutIntergovernmental Advisory Council 01-26-98MINUTES OF INTERGOVERNMENTAL ADVISORY COUNCIL MONDAY, JANUARY 26, 1998 Meeting was called to order by Chairman Dr. Ron Bernth at 7:03 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall in the City of Hudson. PRESENT: Attorney Clarence Malick representing the Hudson School District; from the City of Hudson - Administrator Brian Gramentz, Mayor Jack Breault and Alderperson Bill Knuth; from the Town of Hudson - Chairwoman Rita Horne. ALSO PRESENT: Shirley Fredrickson, District Representative for State Senator Alice Clausing, 30th District State Representative Sheila Harsdorf, and Randy Hanson, Hudson Star Observer. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING: MOTION by Jack Breault, second by Buck Malick, to approve the Minutes of the previous meeting, as presented. MOTION CARRIED. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: Dr. Bernth reported that on the agenda was an update on the proposed legislative activities of the Wisconsin House and Senate. Ms. Shirley Fredrickson, District Representative for Senator Alice Clausing, presented information regarding the makeup of the Senate membership and how it may affect upcoming votes. Discussion was also held regarding the mining moratorium bill. Representative Sheila Harsdorf discussed the activities of 1997 which resulted in the State Budget, tax cuts, indexed tax rates, Recycling Program, and the continuation of the State's commitment to two-thirds funding of public schools. . The members were invited to ask questions of Representative Harsdorf and Ms. Fredrickson. Topics raised and discussed were the State's surplus tax revenue, police pursuits law, qualified economic offer for public school teachers, Department of Transportation financing for industrial transportation routes, Lottery Credit and its future benefits, equalized vs. assessed property values and the confusion created by the dual system for comparison purposes, the freeze on agricultural property values, the Governor's proposal for the Milwaukee School System, and the mechanics of the State's Expenditure Restraint Program. After lengthy discussion of the above issues, at 8:34 p.m. Chairman Bernth stated that the meeting was concluded. DATE AND AGENDA ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be held on Monday, March 23rd at the St. Joseph Town Hall, with the County Revolving Loan Fund as the basic topic.
