PUBLIC PROTECTION COMMITTEE MEETING
October 8, 1998
MEMBERS PRESENT: Julie Speer, Chuck Mehls, Bill Krueger and Bob
Gunderson. Tom Irwin was excused.
STAFF PRESENT: Corporation Counsel Greg Timmerman, Jail Captain
Karen Humphrey and Renee Carufel.
Meeting called to order at 1:00 p.m. by Chairman Speer. Motion to
adopt the agenda as published by Krueger/Mehls with an amendment to
postpone the meeting until after appearing before the Finance
committee for budget review. Carried. Meeting resumed at 3:00 p.m.
Date of the next regular meeting is Nov. 6th, 9:00 a.m.
Motion by Krueger/Mehls to approve the minutes of Sept. 8th.
Carried.
Motion by Krueger/Gunderson to approve the vouchers of $44,764.66
for the Jail, $17,582.02 for the Sheriff's Department, $733.24 for
the District Attorney and $4181.25 for the Medical Examiner.
Carried. Revenues for the Sheriff's Dept. and Jail for the month
of September were $127,914.85 and $650 for the Medical Examiner.
Motion by Krueger/Mehls to increase the on call assistant medical
examiner's pay from $1.05 per hour to $1.45 per hour. This
increase will cost around $1300. Carried.
NEUMANN CASE: Timmerman informed the committee there is nothing
more to be done with the Neumann case. The death certificate will
stand as homicide.
JAIL CAPTAIN'S REPORT: Humphrey said the Jail inspection report
will be discussed at the next meeting.
Immigration update and the security report will also be discussed
at the next meeting.
Motion by Krueger/Speer to adjourn at 3:40 p.m.
