Tom Irwin was excused and Bill Krueger arrived at 10:00 a.m. STAFF PRESENT: Sheriff Paul Burch, Jail Captain Karen Humphrey, Patrol Captain Robert Klanderman, District Attorney Eric Johnson, DA Office Manager Deb Staberg, Victim Witness Ann Gustafson, Child Support Administrator Lynn Holmes, Medical Examiner Marty Shanklin and Renee Carufel. Meeting called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Speer. Motion to adopt the agenda as published by Gunderson/Mehls. Carried. Date of the next regular meeting is Sept. 8th at 9:00 a.m. JAIL ASSESSMENT/DRAWERS: Last month approval was given to spend up to $2100 for repair of the file drawers in the jail area. Maintenance obtained two more bids for this project. One from Wevers in Baldwin for $2300 and one from A & R of Hudson for $2250. Humphrey explained these drawers need at least a 175 pound capacity. Mehls moved to approve up to $2250 to repair the drawers and let Maintenance and the Department decide which contractor to go with to get the best deal. Second by Speer. Carried. BUDGETS: Medical Examiner: Shanklin asked for a 3t raise in his salary, increase in call hours wages and a reimbursement for off site investigations. He also requested an increase in the cost of an autopsy. Motion by Mehls to approve $68,442 for this budget. Second by Gunderson. Carried. DISTRICT ATTORNEY: Johnson presented his budget which showed about a 4% increase. Committee reviewed the budget. Motion by Mehls to approve this budget of $269,376. Second by Speer. Carried. VICTIM WITNESS: This budget showed an 18.7396 increase. The reason for this is because the part time person went to a full time Position. Johnson explained the VOCO grant which is lon funded and awarded to this department to help people fill out restraining orders and protection services. Because of this money we served almost 200 people last year. Motion by Gunderson/Mehls to approve the Victim Witness budget of $100,979. Carried. SHERIFF: Burch was asked to present to the Committee the idea of placing the money from the Confiscated Drug Fund ($56,691), Polk/St. Croix Co. Drug Fund ($97,976) and Counteract money ($2638) into the general fund and used as a budgetary item. Discussion was held and it was the consensus of the committee is to leave the accounts within the Sheriff's department . Motion to approve the Sheriff's Department budget of $2,663,823 by Gunderson/Mehls. Carried. JAIL: This year the Jail budget is based on 105 inmates instead of 100 as last year. The average meal cost is $2.70. The major portion of increases are the mandated items that they have no control over. Motion by Krueger to approve the budget. of $1,953,612. for the Jail. Mehls seconded the motion. Carried. Mehls was excused from the meeting at 11:30 a.m. CHILD SUPPORT: The budget shows an 11.83 % increase due to the new position. Without the new position the actual increase would have been very small. Holmes also explained the other increases in the budget. Motion by Krueger to approve $386,679 for Child Support.
