PUBLIC PROTECTION COMMITTEE MEETING
July 30, 1998
MEMBERS PRESENT: Julie Speer, Tom Irwin and Bob Gunderson. Bill
Krueger was excused. Chuck Mehls was absent.
STAFF PRESENT: Sheriff Paul Burch, Chief Deputy Ron Volkert, Child
Support Administrator Lynn Holmes and Renee Carufel.
Meeting called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Speer. Motion to
adopt the agenda as published Irwin/Gunderson. Carried.
Date of the next regular meeting is August 7th at 8:30 a.m. Next
special meeting will be August 19th at 9:00 a.m. to work on the
budgets.
JAIL SERGEANT/SHIFT SUPERVISOR• Sheriff Burch reported Captain
Humphrey has withdrawn the request for jail sergeant at this time.
Motion to drop the request for Jail Sergeant by Irwin/Speer.
Carried.
CHILD SUPPORT/NEW POSITION• Holmes explained the need for the new
position and why it would be beneficial to have this position in
effect Oct. 1, 1998. Discussion was held. Irwin questioned if
there would be adequate service if this person would not be hired
until Jan. 1, 1999. Motion by Irwin to defer the hiring for this
new position until Jan. 1, 1999, second by Gunderson. Irwin and
Gunderson voted yes and Speer voted no. Carried.
WITHDRAWAL OF MONEY FROM CONFISCATED DRUG FUND: Burch reported the
dog that our canine officer trained with failed the class so we
were given another one that failed also. Burch asked the Committee
to purchase a dog for $2500 from the Confiscated Drug Fund. This
dog would be guaranteed to perform his duties. He also requested
an additional $1000 from this fund for any overtime occurred while
our K-9 officer was training with this new dog. Motion to approve
the purchase of a dog for $2500 and $1000 for overtime by
Gunderson/Irwin. Carried.
Motion to adjourn by Irwin at 10:30 a.m.
Bids will be opened at 2:00 p.m. with Chair Speer present.
