Committee Members
St. Croix County Traffic Safety Commission meeting was held January
15, 1998 at the Sheriff Department in Hudson at 1:30PM.
Present were: Jim Harer, Max Ihrke, Lois Burri, Brent Pickard,
Roland Thompson, Greg Helgeson, Miles Wittig, Charles Grant, Heidi
Habel and Pam Dabruzzi.
Meeting was called to order by Chairman Thompson. Motion to adopt
agenda approved. Motion to accept minutes of the October 14, 1997
meeting was made, seconded and approved. Lois Burri a new member
was introduced by Chairman Thompson.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Hwy. 12, Co. Rd. UU and Badlands Rd. (letter was sent tc
Marty Beekman of DOT concerning this area. Scheduled to be
resurfaced in 1999.) In program for (4) lane expansion probably 8-
10 years.
Discussion held on intersection at Co. Rd. UU and Carmichael
Rd. reference traffic congestion.
Mr. Helgeson stated he received another call reference No
Passing at Good Shepherd Academy. He states they are looking at
more signs.
NEW BUSINESS:
Chairman Thompson received a request for (4) school bus stop
ahead signs by the St. Croix Central Schools. Chairman Thompson is
following up on this request.
CTH H & Hwy. 63, Chairman Thompson stated cars are going
through "T" intersection and out into field. It is well signed.
Mr. Harer will check on this. Same situation is happening at CTH
H & CTH C intersection. Mr. Helgeson suggested a "bigger" stop
sign. Mr. Harer will check this out.
Chairman Thompson is receiving complaints of too fast of speed
for curve at Exit 19EB off I-94 for Hwy. 63. Discussion held on
this.
Mr. Helgeson went over 1999 and 2000 construction project of
Hwy. 35 from I94 to River Falls. They are considering making it a
65 MPH zone.
Mr. Pickard stated there were 719 fatalities in 1997 in WI.
LEGISLATIVE UPDATE:
On 12-23-97 a law went into effect that you must be 18 years
old to ride in an open pickup box.
Municipalities will be able to enforce Transportation Code 305
violations.
Requirement of school buses to have a (8) light warning system
in WI is being considered.
Mr. Pickard handed out and went over bills being considered at
State level and their status.
A discussion was held concerning Bill ABG39 reference quotas.
Motion was made and seconded to adjourn. Carried.
