Present: Gene Ruetz, Bill Peavey, Linda Luckey, Pete Kling, Joan Sprain, Ruth Hilfiker,
Martha Mabis, Mary Lestrud, Marie Witzel, and Chuck Whiting.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Ruetz
Date of next meeting was set for August 5, 2008.
Motion that the agenda be adopted as presented seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Peavey moved that the previous meeting's minutes be approved. Ruetz seconded the motion.
Motion carried.
Peavey moved that the vouchers be approved. Luckey seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Federal Budget
County Budget: Milligan and Whiting reported on the budget process.
WACEC: No one attended this year's conference. Next year it will be in the Western District.
Personnel: Milligan introduced Witzel, the new 4- H/Youth agent.
Ag Agent Report
Milligan discussed the Dairy Low Cost Parlor Tour held in July. About 25 dairy producers
participated at the two locations. There are several producers interested in installing a low cost
parlor.
Farm City Day will be held August 9 at the UW River Falls Dairy Learning Center.
Family Living
Foreclosure Conference, sponsored by UWEX in Pierce and St. Croix, will be held Thursday
August 21" in River Falls. The afternoon will be for professionals and the evening will be for
homeowners.
Completed 6 hours of the Strengthening Families for Parents and Youth 10 -14 in Somerset last
week. Worked in partnership with Grace Place and the WNEP Program.
Resource Agent's Report
Kling facilitated a discussion with committee and staff to develop an action plan for county
strategic initiative #14: Increase the use and encourage the development of renewable energy.
The committee identified initiative owners, key contributors, deliverables, results, and major
actions with associated timelines. Staff will summarize the information and review the action
plan with the committee in August

Horticulture Educator's Report
Ruth Hilfiker report the she promoted Buying Local farm products and the Farm Fresh Atlas by
writing an article in all local papers and doing a radio show on 1590 am. Hilfiker handed out
copies of a brochure explaining the Buy Fresh, Buy Local promotional campaign. This past
weekend she organized a group of 5 apple growers to attend an Organic Apple Orchard and
Value -Added Field Day in LaCresent, Minnesota.with her. They discussed apple cider making,
reducing energy use on the farm by use of vacuum tube solar energy collectors, high density
planting and insect monitoring.
